This all started when I saw a post on Phil's Tire about a new Jongbloed Spec Miata/Spec E30 wheel. I liked the design and contacted Ryan to see if he would be interested in doing a 15x9 version with some dish that would still clear BBKs, since there are currently only two options, and only 1 that I would consider using.

I'm not sure why you are so upset about this. I'm not making any money off it, I'm not slyly some Jongbloed rep trying to skirt being a vendor.

I'm purely an enthusiast who wants another high-quality option for track wheels. I did this same type of thing many times before when I was still in the sport bike scene.

If I can set up a group buy and get US ALL free shipping, how is that a bad thing?

I like Ryan. I think he's a good guy. I respect the quality of his wheels too. He has been talking making a Miata wheel for a long time. That being said I think he missed the boat. Emilio has set the bar pretty high with a proven, lightweight, low cost design. It's gonna be a tough market to penetrate. Maybe the street guys will step up with orders. I think the race crowd is pretty much spoken for.

I generally disagree when there is one product on the market. With that said, 6ULs are certainly very good. I haven't really heard any complaints about the 6ULs. Nor is there anything missing really (maybe others want a new look, or different colors...but I don't care).

I still think a little competition can't hurt. at the very least you get a choice (if these wheels will provide the same reliability/longevity and performance).

I bet these would generate much more interest if they looked better. I would love a 5 or 6 spoke wheel that fit the BBKs.

He has, but I know Jongbloed is more than capable of making an equally high quality wheel.

I agree with Track that more choices are never a bad thing.

See, I like them. They remind of the BBS CH.



That's why I started looking into alternatives. I don't consider the TRM a legitimate option. So the 6UL is the only choice, for now, for a quality wheel for track Miata's without stepping up to $3k a set custom wheels.

Be willing to bet this wont hold true. The "race crowd" needs the wheels to be readily avalible which we all know is an issue. Also, I know people out there who would actually be willing to pay a little more for a wheel isnt a 949...

The "race crowd" has multiple sets in the trailer, some even with spares of their own. Replacing your spare the week after you taco one at an event is different than not planning ahead to preorder before the season starts.

I dont race w2w, and I have 3 sets. Maybe i'm doing it wrong.

I didnt say I was one of those people, but I do know for a fact they are out there. I do w2w race and autox, I have 2 sets of 10" 949 wheels for autox and 2 sets of 8" wheels for roadrace. I have a couple customers who love 949, I have a couple who dont, it is what it is.

Maybe some of us aren't there yet? I currently have 15x8s, but once I swap a VVT in, I plan on having at least two sets of 15x9 (too much wheel tire for a stock 1.6).


I'm surprised to see the amount of people who don't think another high quality wheel choice in this size is a good thing.

I think its because that 949 suds so much work to get the wheels to got the car/market and now people are just using their data to get a head start. I for one like the the look of these new wheels. Maybe in a market for some 9's this spring and these maybe my first choice now.

FYI, this group buy has now moved over to FM. The wheels have been redesigned, they're more BBS RK than CH now.
