Hello all,

I have 15x8 wheels currently using Venus RS4 225/45/15, I have a major case of tramlining.

I've changed the toe and tramlining still continues, camber is what Mazda recommends for a N.A. TP is currently 50 PSI per tire manufacturer. Side walls are too stiff which add to the tramlining.

any recommendations or different wheels to try?

 

50psi seems high for tire pressures. Where is the issue showing itself? Track? Street? Some tramlining is a symptom of wide tires on a light car. Mine's always done it on 225/45s on 15x9s.

 

50psi is incredibly high. Try something closer to 28psi. Also changing wheels isn't going to affect this unless your offset is stupid low or something.

 

Bro is using the MAX 50psi as a recommendation...

 

Toe makes cars wander. Too much in or out. Did you use toe boards, string the car or pay a shop? Shop would give a print out.

 

50psi on a 225 is insane. Like Fire said, try upper 20s. What wheels are you running? If they’ve got some wack offset it’ll ruin the scrub radius which can have a big effect on steering and the car pulling to one side or the other when hitting bumps. Like someone else mentioned, toe is a big influencer of steering stability as well.

Try 26-28psi. Wheel offset should be between +32 to +40. Much lower and you'll still get tramlining.

 

big typo I'm at 30 psi currently. I think I need to go with a 205 or 195. Any tire recommendations it's a street driven Miata.

 

Oh good, 30 is much more normal. The tire really isn’t going to be a big contributor to what you’re describing, alignment and wheel offset are the big culprits.

 

I street drive a 205/50/15 Nitto Neogen and they've been good enough for me. I don't notice any tramlining with them.
When I throw on the 245/40/15 RT660 for autocross it's immediately apparent that the car wants to pull me into every groove in the road.

Presumably not on the same width or offset wheels.

200tw tires are generally going to be noisier and tramline worse than the same size tire in a 280 to 400tw

 

Yeah, good point Emilio. The 205 is on a 15x8 while the 245 is a 15x9. The 15x9 should be +35 and I'm not sure of the offset on the 15x8s.
