What tyre sizes would you run for track 200bhp?

He's in Europe, so no 225-45-15 RS3's, no BFG Rivals, no NT-01's, none of the Maxis tires are sold either. AFAIK the only 225 tires in stock on the continent are R888s (800$ a set) and a rally tire that's measures 205mm wide. Buying a set of 15x9 wheels+tires in that eco-system might not be the smartest thing to do.
205 availability is much better, I would think a set of 15x8's will be a smarter investment. They are plenty wide to get you started on track and you'll have actual tire choices ranging from cheap (Federals, nankang) to decent (R888s) to expensive but fast (Avon's, Advans, Dunlops, Michelins and plenty of full slicks). The quality difference between cheap slicks (lots of choices) and R888s is more then enough to compensate for the smaller width.

Personally I think I will stick to an 8J wheel with 205/50/15 tyres, Nankang NS-2R or Federal 595RS-R would be the best bang for buck. If you do not care about the last digits of the laptime I would just go with the Federals or Nankang and not go with the R888s because they are kinda expensive for what they are. I see the Kumho Ecsta XS KU36 and Toyo Proxes R1R are also available in 205/50/15 in Europe and are also cheaper than R888's.
If anyone knows how to get anything wider than 205's in 15 inch in Europe without spending more than 100 euro a tire I would be delighted to know...

The pricing is just skewed here: a 595RS-R just costs around 70 euro and a NS2-R costs around 80 euro (prices for 195/50/15 and 205/50/15 pretty similar).
The R888 in 205/50/15 is nearly 200 euros a piece... You guys get the Victra VR-1 in 245/45/15 for 150 dollars!
So if it is just for trackday fun (which is what I will be doing) I will just stick to the 205/50/15 and 595RS-R's or NS2-R's I think.

Go for the softest compound NS2R. The harder ones will most likely not come up to temp on a trackday car. We struggled with the harder compounds on a podgy enduro car even in warmer weather until the softer compounds were allowed.

Related question and maybe useful information: Will a 15x9/225 be slower than 15x8/205 on a stock powered car? I remember reading they are but I can't find the thread (many years ago)

As far as I understand, though, usually the 225 will be faster. I understand that the largest reason the 10's slow you down is because they stick out so far. the 9's don't stick out nearly as far.

I got 8" könig wideopen and was thinking of fitting 225/50-15 t1r's (cost around 110 euros) but whats bad about fitting 225 on 8" wide? Do I need 9"?
I know the 225/50-15 is approx 5.21% bigger circumference (<=5% allowed) but... Europe
Just thinking of running some autox and track days occasionally but mostly street.

Theres nothing necessarily bad about a 225 on an 8. A wider wheel just feels better and is faster in many cases. I ran 205s on 6.5s for 2 years on track. They felt a magnitude of order stiffer than the 195s on 5.5s. Then I went to 205s on 9s, and im still laughing my *** off out of pure joy.

Stick with 205 wide tires that were not introduced two decades ago. Federal RSR's, soft NS2Rs or R1Rs will probably be a decent and affordable bet.

Forgot to tell you, I'd like to run in the street tire class, threadwear 200+
And again, mostly for street use.
Have also thought about running some Michelin's but crap sizes available.

I don't understand, are you trying to be competitive in some class (which class?/championship) or just looking for a street tire that can handle rain and won't wear very quickly?
In case its answer one, then strap 195-50-15 R1Rs on those 15x8's and let them cool down between very short runs. There are a couple magic laps in them. I think they are the only 200 threadware sorta cheater tire for sale in Europe. You'll go through them quickly (2 events or so). For street driving anything from the current decade will do. No need to go wider in that case.

I wouldn't recommend a 225/50. That tire is going to be too tall. I am running 225/45 and I already destroy fender liners and the tire does bottom on the body a bit.
