Default FOUND: '06 Miata 5 spd Driveshaft

I'VE FOUND WHAT I NEED: THANKS!

I was hoping to get a shaft and then have my rear flange mated up to the front Miata yoke, but I have found Shafts Masters and they stock both the front yokes that will fit the later NC cars as well as having the rear MG flange in stock.

So I'm good to go at this point, thanks for looking!

I have a new car project coming up and it will be a Harley powered car using a Miata 5 speed MT. I have an '06 Miata 5 speed I just purchased with 20k miles and will need to couple that to a MGB early banjo rear axle assembly. I have the bolt on rear diff U-joint plate with a couple inches of driveshaft tube still intact. My guess is that other years, possibly up through '15 or so will fit this 5 speed. I'm not certain if a 6 speed MT uses the same yoke or not, but it may and if that's the case, a 6 speed driveshaft yoke would work too...

What I need now is the 5 speed front driveshaft yoke with just a few inches of tube still intact. The U-joint can be bad, don't care as I will be replacing them anyway.

So can someone help me out with a front driveshaft yoke and a bit of tube still attached?

Thanks and have a great evening!

This sounds like a very interesting project. Please tell us what you are building.

Your avatar looks a LOT more interesting than anything I could ever build...

Just remember, you asked for this. I tend to be a bit wordy from time to time...

Okay, this is what I plan on doing.

I have an '05 Harley CVO Fat Boy 103" (1690cc) "B" motor. The "B" motors use twin counterbalance shafts to smooth out the usual Harley vibration. These motors are very smooth and usually mount solidly into the Harley frame without the normal touring bike rubber mounting. My goal was to start out with an 88" "B" motor and then bore it to around 97". But I found this kind of rare '05 103" and had to pick it up. When you have a project coming up, even maybe 6 months off, when you find a good deal you get it when it's available.

My rearend is an early series MGB banjo unit. These have removable diffs like a Ford 9" etc. I have three diffs, 3.9"1, 4.3:1 and a 4.55:1. With 19" spoke wheels with 4.00x19" rubber, 28" tall tires may need to have some tweaking to get the correct diff ratio for fun performance. The front end will use MGA front spindles with my own design knuckles that I will weld to a tube axle I need to fab yet. I'll run leaf springs front and rear. The front and rear have 10" drums and should be more than enough to stop a 1300# car on 4" wide rubber.

The Morgan Motor Co in the UK came back out with their M3W in '12. It's powered by a S&S 2L Wedge V-Twin. Morgan makes an adapter housing that allows the early Harley and S&S wedge motor's 4-bolt primary side to bolt up to a Miata 5 speed MT. I now have the motor and the trans, so that much is in house. I just picked up the Miata 5 speed last Thursday out of an '06 with 20k miles. This should be pretty much like new. I need to get a yoke with just a few inches of driveshaft so I can have a new driveshaft made up to the rear u-joint flange I have for the MGB rearend.

Here's a M3W.

This is their S&S motor mated up to a Miata 5 speed.

The top photo I believe is of an earlier version trans they used as it has their rear mounted shifter assembly. The bottom picture is the same trans that I just bought with the forward shift location. The forward location is the most desirable for the M3W as it doesn't smash you elbow into the seat when shifting.

I'm going to be replicating a 20's style MG M-Type 2-seater. I will upscale it about 10% to 15% to fit my big **** inside. Imagine this with a nice large Harley motor sitting out front!

I'll be building the main frame from 2:x3" rectangular tubing. The Morgan's of today still use an ash wood frame for the body to be skinned over. I plan on using 1.25" square aluminium tubing and rolling it for the side profile curves. It will be a big learning curve for me working with aluminium. I think I'll purchase a spool gun for my MIG welder and I still have my Lincoln Square Wave 185 TIG to fall back on if necessary. After I have the skeleton made up, I'm going to use sheet aluminium for the body. I'll be doing suicide doors to gain a bit more hip room from latches and also allow for more foot room on entering the car. Also the suicide doors look cooler!

It's going to be a LOT of work, but should be a great bit of fun in the process.

If anyone is interested, take a look at my Picture Trail photo albums. Dan's Photo Albums

I'm open to any suggestions or thoughts on this project. Although the WTB forum might not be the best location for my little project.

Thanks and hope to get a yoke and portion of a driveshaft soon.

Keep well and have a great week!
