Default need a 1.6 asap

My head gasket blew in my daily so if anyone has a 1.6 motor lying around let me know. I can arrange shipping as well. I have a shop to do the swap and the sooner I fix the car the sooner I can stop taking the godawful city bus to work. Please reply, PM or call 636 233 5074. Thanks.

I found someone to do the swap that I trust to do it I just need a motor as the shop wanted 1000 bucks for a motor with 124k on it when I know I can find a nicer one for less. There aren't many of the 1.6's around here. They've all migrated elsewhere it seems. Any leads or offers would be helpful.

Buy a head gasket, and make sure the head isn't warped. It'd be cheaper most likely.

I can't do the work and the replacement of the head gasket at a shop runs about 800-1000 dollars anyway so an extra grand gets me a spair motor and one that dosen't create white smokescreens. You all know any places that source motors or know of anyone that is trying to sell one?

I have a guy here in Tucson who has his own little Miata Junk yard, sells 1.6's for $250, but I don't think he will ship.

Here's link if you want to give him a try. Really nice guy, maybe you can talk him into shipping. If you get desperate maybe I can help you out, buy it from him then get it shipped.

If you have his number it might be worth a shot.

If you don't find anything by the end of next week PM me. I've got a couple of 1.6 up in TN but my friend won't be back until mid week to ship one.

that is super interesting. My only hesitation is that I would need to buy a conversion kit and I am turbo'd and there isn't a manifold for the 1.8 that uses my turbo. If I just end up doing the gasket and am still looking for a motor I will definitely look you up. Thank you.

I have a spare 1.6 that came from my 90 a year or so ago. ~130k miles, you will need to transfer your oil pan as this was tapped for an oil drain. Motor had good compression when pulled, no leak down numbers though. With the mileage it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to check the valves and valve seals if you are just going to swap this one in and not build it.

$300 for a full long block oil pan to valve cover, no accessories. Should be about $100 to ship on a pallet.

Just ordered a gasket set and water pump/timing belt kit. If I pull the head off and the motor's toast I will get ahold of you, browning, for that motor. Thanks everyone for their input and advice.

Can I take off the head with intake manifold still attached? That would really speed things up.
