According to this post original begi s4 = ebay s4. they're the same design, because one is a knockoff of the other, but not the same quality or material |

Aricjm15: You are quite correct, the ebay piece and mine are the same. We made a proto, sent it to a maker in China, received a bunch of nice pieces, then found the same thing for sale on ebay. I have to admit, I was warned.

I wasn't aware there was a ebay knockoff, are they still for sale..havent seen any. I'm looking for the begi quality one.

The correct fix would be not using 1/32" wall tubing.
|
look same =/= same
But yes, they look exactly the same. Just use different metal |
Interesting idea 18psi. So which different metal would that be? Any specifics?

the thickness of it. both use ss
|
Theres different SS ratings too. I didnt know they use similar shit, i always thought they made their own in house. Hmm.

I measured an ebay s4. It looks like it they use 38mm x 1mm tubing.
I wonder how this compares to the original part? |
MX-5 Miata Forum - View Single Post - Turbo- Cast manifold VS Welded Stainless
Please don't take this as I am dissing the S4 manifold. I'm not. It has it's place and purpose. But, I am honest and up front about how much or if it will crack. If you do not support a SS manifold, the failure rate is 100%. If you over support a SS manifold, the failure rate is 100%. If you support it just enough, like we do, the failure rate is about 40%. Hence, the extended warranty on it. Stephanie |
Well only reason I want s4 is because I alrdy have the downpipe. I have no problem going with a cast manifold, I just wanted something to bolt up to the stock exhaust.

But are they are different? Any definitive proof? I interpreted Corky's post to mean they are the same (as in the same).
In any case both versions crack in the same way and same time frame when the downpipe is supported correctly. https://www.miataturbo.net/build-thr...e2/#post992615 All is not lost, Begi has come up with a fix. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...d-p3170103-jpg |
The new S4 should last for ever as it uses shed 40 mild steel but costs $$$ BEGi S4 Miata Exhaust Manifold 1990-2005 BEGi
A used thin wall s4 will probably not last. There are no readily available s4 replacement manifolds afik. I made my own for that reason. https://www.miataturbo.net/diy-turbo...e3/#post995562 I think your best option in this case is 1994 1995 1996 1997 Mazda Miata Turbo Manifold MX 5 1 8 | eBay[/URL] The most important thing with the s4 is using a brace something like this one. Miata Turbo S4 Manifold Support Brace BEGi With luck it will last for a few years. |
