I was briefly considering 225/45

But really it's going to be 205/50.

Not too sure on the details yet, kinda looking at the Dunlop Direzza Z2 or whatever it's called.

.......Speaking of which: it currently spins whatever the OEM tires are in 1st gear. I thought it was just a crappy road, but yesterday I tried it like 3 times, and each time it would spin hard in 1st when VTAK kicked in (lulz) and bounce off the limiter.

This is the 1st completely bone-stock miata I've ever driven that did this rolling into a gear

Yeah I'd be wanting those tires replaced pretty quick.

Sounds like when I go my NB. The 14" costco all season commuter tires were so old and hard I could spin them at will in first at stock power. My first panic stop in traffic almost ended with me totaling the car.

hahaha well they're not costco tires.

I keep forgetting the brand, but it's the OEM Mazdaspeed tires, I wanna say Bridgestone Potenza?

But yeah, they look old despite having plenty of tread left.

OK, so my rims come in tomorrow.

Yesterday I stopped by a local tire shop, and even though the monkey on the phone tells me all he's got are some no-name brand chinese tires, I have him "check again" and he goes "oh yeah, and I got these Dunlop Direza zii right here. Last set"

Derp

Anyways, I bougth them on the spot and told him to hold them til tomorrow when I bring the rims in to mount.

One thing I'm nervous about: they are manuf date 2012. Is that really bad???!!
I heard tons of things about getting only really recently made tires, and never buy stuff that's been sitting for a couple years, but what's done is done.

How bad is it that they were made in '12? Or is 2 years old still okay? They are brand new of course.

So according to that, 6 years is the max. And that assumed that they were actually on a car, in the sun, etc. Which these were not, just sitting in a warehouse the whole time.

So I guess I should be ok? lol

You have been hanging out with the racecar guys too much. What is the date code on the Subaru's tires? How about the wife's Prius? You are over thinking this, they are just DD tires.

Besides, you'll sell the car before you wear out the tires.

lol

Got 205/50/15 mounted today, and the tire sidewall "lip" extends way past the spokes, so I'm really happy about that. Weighed one complete wheel - right around 28-29lb

Pictures will be taken as soon as I wash/clean them and the car.

That doesn't look bad at all. I was thinking it would look opposite of stretch, but looks good.
