Theres a sticker on it "Designed for Windows XP" xD
On used items, not supposed to pay any tax!

Whats ubuntu?

I'm going to breathe into a paper bag, and then post this link: Meet Ubuntu | Ubuntu

But to be honest, I've started using Linux Mint w/MATE as of late.

google'd it right after i posted, downloaded it, trying it this weekend!
If i can save the old latitude for some tuning use, would be cheaper ^^

Had a few hours in my hand yesterday, so i messed around a little

I got the boost controller mocked up, but still need some good silicone vaccum hose.

Got rid of the 89576485768 sticker in the windows.

Also, worked on a intercooler plate, so that the air flow would be better, plus it helps the bumper hold together.

It's no exotic material, Mild steel. i will paint it this week, flat black!

Wow! it's been a while!

So i got all Management, fuel on the car! car went super all summer long! 10-11psi, good tune!
Had a few goodies added to the car during summer.

A set of quik-latch for quick bumper removal.

A set of Advan A032R

And i got my hand on a super cheap set of Toyota COPs

So this is where the 2014 project comes back to life.
Sunday, October 13th, i decided to get a bit more juice, so i got the boost up to 12-13psi, fuel was perfect, timing pretty conservative, car was pulling like never before!

So i was going back home aroung 11:30 at night, hard launched, motor grenaded before i even get into second.

This is what i got when i got out to inspect damages.

And this is what i discovered on Monday!

Had 2 hole in the block, and oil pan totally screwed!

So i got to work, got the engine out!

And began disassembly this weekend.

And then, i got trought this

And this

And this!!!

So now, my project is'nt locked down! i will rebuild another BP4W(internals are still on the descision bench), probably service transmission, and depower the rack.

I am open for any kind of suggestion/advice for the rebuild!

Damn! Nice carnage shots! Sucks to lose the motor but its impressive none the less.

Any chance there is a log? Post the timing map maybe?

damn man
that sucks

but

i gotta say, after going through all the pages...and spending all that money...why didn't you build the motor?
it would've been just 1K more...which you now have to spend on getting a block plus internals...

or are you going to keep stock bottom end?

Because everyone thinks their BP is magical and will somehow hold up better then others lol.

Also you see all these threads with some people runnings 15psi+ on their miata's, and people think that's the rule, not the exception.

Also boost is addicting.

Also I blew my 1st engine doing exactly the same thing: raised boost to 12-13psi after a few months of 7psi and couldn't get enough of the newfound power and torque.

We live and we learn

I was accually planning on a rebuild this winter, but the engine blew up before that, btw, i knew from the begining that bp rods were ****! But a rebuilt around here cost way more than a 1000 bucks, only rods and piston, once duty and taxes paid, cost more than a 1000$! I could of rebuilt the engine this summer, but thats kinda dumb idea knowing i dont use the car november till april...

So i got my hand on a "new" engine, bought the hole engine for just about 350$, it's a BP4W with about 122XXX miles, previous owner claimed a crooked crankshaft!

On first look, it looked oily as hell, but not THAT bad! They had a hard time removing one of the exhaust manifold stud.

So i got it in the shop, witch looked like this

And got working on it, removed intake first, looked good. but already i could see that the engine had a hard life then mine use too had!
Next, was the valve cover, that where the party started!

It was caused by this!

Got deeper

AAAAAAND deeper!

These are connecting rod bearing, 1 to 4.

And this is 4!

So, i got to conclusion that this engine had little(or no) maintenance, oil leaks, and oil consumption, and propably oil starvation.

So i have to take both crank and block to my machinist so he can tell me if both crank are srap, or good. Also seeing that oil starvation, pushes me to dissasemble part on the head, before selling it, to be sure it's all good!

that is one toasted engine.
and yes, you better make sure every single rotating part is inspected because oil starvation has a tendency of toasting nearly everything, not just the bearings

So i got my hand on a 2001 6 speed (with about 41 000m) and a MSM Rack and pinion for depowerering, since ratio is shorter(about 2 1/8 turns lock to lock VS 2 7/8 for the 99-05 non-MSM), i tought that would be the best to depower!

So here the 6speed laying aside with the 5speed

Had a some time off on sunday, so i began the depowering!
Here is the rack, this is how i got it, 500 miles, inner tie-roe popped out in accident!

Stripping it!

Stripped

Reassembled and plugged!

I also removed the spool valve, checking for the famous "loose" in the pinion shaft, wich i don't seem to have, so i am going to try it like that!

I do have a tight spot about in the middle course, i don't know if this is normal? i followed tightning sequences(43ft/lbs 3 times, slack it off 25 degrees) lock to lock seems find, it's only in the middle!

What can i do to enhance the weirdly done BP4W intake? i already removed the flappers(and i'm going to plug hole! but, any thing else? other then porting and polishing(wich i am waiting for the kit to come it)

I don't want to spend on a supa JDMy0 flat top intake!

I didn't weld the pinion shaft either, it scares me thinking about it.
