This is kind of saddening as, on the whole, I actually respect NPR as a journalistic entity. Admittedly, it comes from a propaganda site with a strongly pro-conservative / pro-conspiracy-theory slant, but the facts seem not to be in dispute.
Publicly Funded NPR Follows the Left’s Lead, Closes Comments Sections
by BEN KEW 18 Aug 2016
Publicly funded National Public Radio has announced that it will be closing its comments sections in a bid to “move the conversation to social media,” following the lead of many left-wing news sites in doing so.
In a blog post by NPR public editor Elizabeth Jensen, she said that although the decision is “sure to upset a loyal core of its audience,” the company would now prefer to “let social media pick up the slack.”
Scott Montgomery, the managing editor for NPR digital news cited the reason for the move as the company’s need to engage more in social media, saying that NPR has “reached the point where we’ve realized that there are other, better ways to achieve the same kind of community discussion around the issues we raise in our journalism.”
However Jensen also admitted in the post that the company could not keep their comments sections as “civil” as that of the New York Times due to the fact that “they use heavy in-house human moderation that costs far more than NPR currently spends on its outsourced system,” whilst “only opening 10 percent of its articles to comments.”
NPR now joins a number of left-wing news organisations who have become fearful of users giving their opinions, joining sites such as The Guardian, The Verge, and The Daily Beast in telling users to take their opinions elsewhere.
The stated reason behind the majority of these decisions has been the need for the organisation to combat “abuse” and “harassment” on the site. The British newspaper The Guardian even chose to close comment sections under articles specifically relating to race, Islam, or immigration, citing them as topics that attract ““unacceptable levels of toxic commentary.”

University To Students: You're a Criminal If You Don't Use Transgender Approved Language - Breitbart
West Virginia University (WVU) has told its 29,000 students that they are breaking federal law if don’t agree to use the pronouns — including ‘he’ or ‘she,’ ‘zir’ or ‘hir’ etc. — preferred by each person who claims to be transgender.

SCHOOL RECOMMENDS TO STOP CALLING CHILDREN ‘BOYS’ AND ‘GIRLS’
AUG 19, 2016 AT 9:14 AM | BY KELLI CATANA
In a recent Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools presentation to principals and counselors in North Carolina, it was suggested that school staff refrain from calling students ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ as part of their bully prevention regulation.
The presentation, titled Supporting Transgender Students, it was suggested that using terms like “students” or “scholars” was more appropriate.
The policy also suggested that students be able to participate in class field trips and extracurricular activities based on their own gender identity.
Meaning, if a student identifies as a girl, she can go on all girl’s field trips and play on girls sports teams.
The policy encouraged students to be “permitted to participate in gender-based activities…and have access to the restroom/changing facilities consistent with their gender identity.”
To help illustrate to their staff how to use and understand proper terms and concepts, a Gender Unicorn graphic was presented.
The presentation also stated that “55.5% of LGBT students felt unsafe at school because of their sexual orientation and 68.1% of LGBT students avoided school functions because they felt unsafe or uncomfortable.”
Of course not everyone is a fan of these new policies, simply enacted to help school staff be more inclusive of all students.
Tami Fitzgerald of the North Carolina Values Coalition told Fox News, “School is no longer about reading, writing and arithmetic. It is now about gender fluidity.”
The Coalition alleges the new policy “jeopardizes the privacy, safety, and dignity” of children at the school.
Employees at CMS maintain that their presentation was meant to provide support and guidelines for staff on how to create an inclusive atmosphere for all students at school.
“CMS remains fully committed to supporting its transgender students and nurturing a safe and welcoming environment for every student and employee,” CMS Chief Communications Officer Kathryn Block said.

Busybodies.
I spent some time early in my career with the Charlotte County (FL) school district doing A/V work. I can assure you that at the executive level, school boards are filled with people who have exceedingly misguided social agendas and nothing better to do with their time than appear to be progressive, and are too intellectually low-functioning to recognize the harm that they are causing.
* = Aren't. So, spelling / grammar, apparently.
But in all seriousness, I wouldn't trust them to teach math, given that they apparently can't do math. From the article which I quoted:

According to that, more students avoided school functions because they felt uncomfortable than the total number who felt uncomfortable in the first place.

Here's the hugh mongous idiot. Video was apparently posted to facebook originally and then deleted when she realized that it was video evidence of her sexually harassing a man. Can't have feminists coming off as "sexist".
