Police have identified an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer accused of shooting and injuring a fellow officer Friday as Adrian Aurs. The 42-year-old officer was charged in an arrest warrant with attempted murder.

Aurs was taken into custody in Cincinnati after police there stopped his vehicle on I-75. He surrendered after an hourlong standoff with police, according to a news release from Indianapolis police.

Police will extradite Aurs to Indianapolis.

Police allege that Aurs, who was off-duty, shot an Indianapolis detective who was investigating a report of domestic violence Friday night involving Aurs and his estranged wife, and then he fled to Ohio.

...Before the release of the videos, Sharon Fairley, IPRA's chief administrator, said in a statement that the agency is proceeding "as deliberately and expediently as possible in pursuit of a swift but fair determination" into the black teen's shooting. She said she expected to wrap up the probe in several weeks, much sooner than the embattled agency once took.

The footage, "as shocking and disturbing as it is," Fairley said, "is not the only evidence to be gathered and analyzed when conducting a fair and thorough assessment of (the) conduct of police officers in performing their duties."

Johnson took quick action after the shooting, stripping three officers who opened fire at O'Neal of their police powers and saying it appeared they had violated departmental policies.

The city's quick moves after O'Neal's shooting show how much has changed in the eight months since the release of video of a white police officer shooting black 17-year-old Laquan McDonald 16 times. The officer who shot McDonald, Jason Van Dyke, is charged with first-degree murder.

One of two deputy city marshals charged with murder over a videotaped shooting that killed a 6-year-old boy wants Louisiana prosecutors to disclose whether any of their witnesses were hypnotized to elicit trial testimony.

A court filing dated last Friday doesn't explain why Norris Greenhouse Jr.'s lawyer, George Higgins III, is asking if any prosecution witnesses underwent hypnosis or any "truth-determining examinations," such as polygraph tests or sodium pentothal.

Higgins didn't immediately return calls and emails seeking comment Tuesday. In his court filing, he said hypnosis has become an increasingly common investigative tool for state law-enforcement agencies despite the technique's controversial nature.

Greenhouse and Derrick Stafford have pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in the shooting that killed Jeremy Mardis and critically wounded his father, Christopher Few, in Marksville last November. Few's recollection of how the shooting unfolded would be crucial trial testimony, but it's unclear if Higgins' court filing relates to him.

A NYPD cop who vowed to fight a court order to resign from the force for stomping on a suspect’s head has officially been given his walking papers, officials said Wednesday.

The NYPD terminated Police Officer Joel Edouard’s employment after a departmental trial, officials said.

Shaniz West told her ex-boyfriend, Fabian Salinas — a wanted felon — to finish clearing out his belongings from her home while she was away registering one of her daughters for first grade on the morning of August 11, 2014.

When West, who was six months pregnant, returned with her children, an eight-year-old and six-month-old, a slew of Caldwell police SWAT officers surrounded her home.

West gave officers the key to the front door since she wasn’t sure whether Salinas was still inside — but they never bothered to use it.

Instead, SWAT brought in an armored vehicle and, for the next ten hours, waged war on the house.

“During the course of the standoff Caldwell police officers broke numerous windows to gain entry, crashed through ceilings while they were maneuvering through the home, and punctured holes in the house by shooting canisters of tear gas that released noxious chemicals into the home,” West explained.

While the prolonged assault on the house continued for hours, the irate homeowner says, her “pet dog Blue was the only occupant of the home.”

Unsurprisingly, officers nearly decimated the house and everything inside — even though they had possession of the key the entire time.

According to her complaint:

“When Ms. West was allowed to re-enter the home, she found the house destroyed. Her and her children’s personal possessions were saturated with tear gas and littered with debris from the walls and ceiling, and broken glass from the windows.

“Ms. West, who was 6 months pregnant at the time, was left to clean up the wreckage by herself and it was two months before Ms. West and her children could occupy their home.”

West also noted she only gave consent for police to enter the home, nothing more.

Fisher says no explanation has been provided by authorities about why it took the SWAT team ten hours to figure out Salinas wasn’t even inside.

“I have no idea,” Fisher said. “I’ve read the police reports and debriefing, and it’s my recollection that someone heard a deadbolt activate, which was impossible, and saw the curtains move, which is possible because there was a pitbull in the house at the time. Basically, they had a standoff with a dog.”

Although the city offered to reimburse West for her belongings, Fisher said the amount was woefully insufficient given the extent of damage caused by the feckless cops.

“Practically the entire contents of the house were destroyed, and they didn’t treat her very well,” he said. “They made a very paltry offer to replace some of it. It was grossly inadequate.”

West is now suing for damages from the City of Caldwell, the Caldwell Police Department, the SWAT team leader, and several individual law enforcement officers.

Though West’s ordeal would seem a rare occurrence, in Police State, U.S.A., destruction of civilians’ homes — and authorities’ failure to compensate appropriately, if at all — has become sadly routine.

Thanks in large part to the failed war on drugs, SWAT teams routinely trash the homes of suspects and their unwitting families — worse, a growing number of reports of officers raiding and trashing the wrong house indicate police can’t operate GPS, navigate a map, or even read an address correctly. Sometimes, their gross incompetence is lethal — for people or their pets.

Police apparently also have a difficult time — despite the presence of a massive surveillance state in the U.S. — keeping up with who lives where.

As in West’s case, hours-long standoffs with empty homes also frequent headlines.

Colorado Judge Patrick Butler turned justice completely upside down to keep the 22-year-old – now convicted – campus rapist out of prison for sexually assaulting a drunken girl. Austin Wilkerson was convicted of both unlawful sexual contact and sexual assault of a helpless victim, but got no time in prison.

Austin Wilkerson’s sex crimes are a Class 3 felony in Colorado, which warrants real imprisonment for four to twelve years, but can stretch into lifetime imprisonment through the crime’s “indeterminate sentencing” penalty, which is reserved for only the most serious offenses.

That’s right, Judge Butler sentenced a criminal facing indefinite detention if his original sentence isn’t enough to rehabilitate the offender, straight into a work rehabilitation program.

He didn’t even order psychological evaluation of the convicted rapist while on release.

Today, Judge Butler completely ignored the testimony of Wilkerson’s victim at the sentencing hearing, when she begged the judge to have as little mercy for the former “big man on campus” as he had for her and gave Austin Wilkerson a 2-year work release sentence in a county jail, and a 20-year probation.

The judge totally ignored the fact that Wilkerson committed his sex crime because was furious because he had made several earlier advances, “but that she rebuffed him each time, and that he felt ‘pissed off’ and called her a ‘******* bitch.’”

An Ann Arbor police SUV not paying attention to the road runs a red light and smacks into a vehicle, causing it to roll on its side and impact another vehicle. The officer was found at fault in the incident.

EDIT : Two witnesses at the scene state that the officer was on his cell phone, with no lights or siren activated and not responding to an emergency call (which also explains why the dashcam video was provided with no audio). He was cited and held responsible / accountable for the crash by AAPD.

Police obtained what they said was a confession from Dassey, and that formed the basis of much of the prosecution’s case against Avery. At one point in the documentary, Ken Kratz, the prosecutor in the Halbach murder case, describes a supposed timeline of the murder in upsetting detail, and it’s implied that much of the information in that timeline came from Dassey’s detailed account. But in the tape of the actual police interview with Dassey, it looks less like a detailed confession and much more like coercion.

At the time of the interview, Dassey was 16 and did not have an attorney or a parent present. According to court records, Dassey has an IQ of somewhere between 69 and 73 — an IQ of 70 is often considered the threshold for intellectual disability — and the tape shows police posing detailed questions to Dassey, who replies with short, often one-word answers.

A disturbing video was uploaded to Twitter Monday afternoon showing a cop holding a small woman up off the ground while smashing her against his patrol car. The woman was an innocent school teacher, and the cop was a bully.

According to the victim, who looks like a little girl in the video, but is actually a 32-year-old woman named Shadon, she was assaulted for no reason at all. The lack of an arrest in the incident is evidence of this claim.

According to Shadon, she was arguing with a man who was harassing another woman. When officers saw this, they perceived her as a threat. So, without question or just cause, this 250-pound cop tossed this 90-pound woman around like a rag doll.

“It was harassment, and I asked for the police officer’s badge – they wouldn’t give me no names, no numbers or nothing – so I left – I never knew this was being recorded,” Shadon said in an interview with FOX 5.

As soon as the Twitter user, @MacAndCheeks, posted the video, it quickly went viral sparking outrage toward the DC police department.

After countless tweets at the department, they finally released a statement noting that “We’ve been made aware of this video and have contacted their commanding officer as we investigate this matter.”
