Default Stupid turbo stud question

All my turbo to exhaust manifold bolts have been having backing out issues. So, I bought studs and nuts from ATP turbo, as well as nord-lock washers from FM.

I pulled the turbo off today. My stupid situation: I don't know how to tighten the studs into the exhaust manifold... obviously you can't put a wrench on the stud itself.. so do I put a nut on the stud, tighten it on then tighten the stud into the manifold and then try to pull the nut off or do I put the turbo in place, thread the nut onto the stud, and then tighten it as I would a normal bolt?

put two nuts onto the stud. the first one will keep the 2nd from spinning down.. tighten stud. remove both nuts. done

This technique is called "jam-nut" FYI.

We have always called it the "Double Nut Method". See any of our turbo install instructions for a how-to.

I think you have ridiculed other people for less than a response like that Sav. Maybe I should start a thread about you in the subscriber section....

First hex nut goes on just enough to let the second nut get some threading. I learned the hard way after tightening the first nut all the way down to the manifold and wondered why I couldn't back it out....
