If you're covering a larger area such as a circuit board, you can get conformal coating in a spray can: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...Nj3ikaWEFdc%3d
This is the stuff that the "pros" use for weatherproofing PCBs. It goes on very thin, like a paint. Doesn't provide any strain relief for things like wire-to-board joints, but is fast and easy to apply, and doesn't add any bulk.
