Total n00b questions regarding tuning
I'm pretty new to the game and I'm wondering where to start on this new project. I picked up a boosted miata recently with these specs:
My guestimation would be that the car's pushing around 150rwhp. I'd like to get around the 200rwhp range. From hours of reading, I'm trying to determine what the best option is to get there. I'm thinking of upgrading the injectors (550cc w/ clips - correct impedance) and picking up a piggyback EMS system like the Megasquirt system (https://www.miataturbo.net/miata-parts-sale-trade-5/90-92-megasquirt-1-sale-54907/). Anything else I should look into? I appreciate the insight!
- Greddy Turbo @ 8psi
- Starion FMIC
- BIPES
- Walbro 190 HP Fuel Pump
- BEGI AFPR
- K&N Filter
- Clutchnet 6-puck Clutch
- Stock injectors

Welcome, if I were you:
- better IC / WI
- Standalone EMS (MS probably)
- 440-550cc injectors, professionally cleaned
What are you running for exhaust? You'll want that as free-flowing as possible.
FWIW I say 440-550cc because you really don't need 550ccs to take a Greddy to its limit. If you plan on upgrading the turbo in the near future they make for good headroom, otherwise you lose a little resolution for idle and cruise fine-tuning over the 440-460 option. Ben and myself were/are running 440cc RCs/460cc RX7s respectively and both made/make about the same HP. Ben had a good point when he said his 440s, being an aftermarket "high performance" injector, had a better spray pattern than my '80s-designed RX7 460s.
Food for thought.

The Starion IC is a pretty decent unit. As long as your plumbing is not overly wrought with sharp bends it should not be a problem for your power goals.
Put some good engine management on it, ditch the BIPES and the BEGI, and put together a proper calibration and you should be easily see your goal.

I had nearly that exact same setup, although with a o2 clamp. Biggest improvement by far was the MS with cleaned and flow tested injectors. Should be able to make back half the cost by selling the piggy back stuff.
