Default T-bolt clamp on the exhaust?

I have some clearnace issues with my Tony downpipe. between the bell housing and the cross member (or what ever you call it) is REALLY tight right wear the two pieces attach. He uses a lap-joint (on pipe fits into the other). Right now I'm using a standard u-bolt clamp which isn't working very well and is now contacting the bell housing.

I've got several t-bolt clamps, could I use one of those in place of the u-bolt clamp? I know using a stepped band clamp would work the best, But sourcing stuff like that locally is a pain in the *** and if I can get it to work with the stuff at hand I'd rather do that.

I don't see why not. The pipes expand a bit as they get warm anyway so i'm sure as long as you tighten it down real good it will hold

These on jegs are made for exhaust, they look identical to the tbolts we use for intercooler piping.

I used a tailpipe hanger bolted to the bottom of the car to push my downpipe up and over a bit so it wouldn't vibrate against the crossmember. It works pretty well.

just make sure there is still wiggle room...you don't want extra stress on that manifold......

It's got that rubber hinge thing so it's still able to move a bit. It's been fine for a couple months now. Thanks for looking out for my manifold though. :gay:
