Default Anybody know anything about 06+ Civic Si's?

Thinking about getting a bigger car for a DD. So I would sell my 94 and take out a loan for a newer car. I have been looking at the 06+ civic Si's. I had a 99 civic before my 97 and I miss the simple creature comforts it had.... a/c, power windows, power doorlocks, cruise control, quietness, and a trunk!

I'm not interested in getting into the whole honda jdm tyte fad or anything. I wanted a backseat, good mileage, reliable, comfortable, enough power to not have to run out 1st and 2nd getting right onto the interstate, sporty enough, and not insanely expensive. And the civic si seems to fit the bill.

So does anyone know much about them? Is there any gremlins to look for? (3rd gear syncro?) And do you think I could sell the car in 5 years for a decent price?

I also looked into forester xt's but I would be too tempted to turn it into an XTi lol.

I'm open to any other suggestions as well.

A buddy of mine recently bought an 08 4 door civic si. It's a k20 6 speed. He's very pleased with it. I drove it, and it rips **** up for a 4 door car that's bone stock.

Well I got to test drive one yesterday. The 6spd was nice but the throw was longer than I thought. It actually had more lowend grunt than I figured too. The ride was firm but nothing as harsh as my r packahe, handle bumps and potholes well. Got on it in third, was up over 80 quicker than I thought and I had another 3k rpm to go and it was pulling harder lol.

The coupe looks cooler imo, but the 4door has more head room and easier to get in and out of course.

So my first impression was great.

They are great: creature comforts, reliable, and an all around nice little daily.
You WILL have to wind out the car to get any acceleration out of it: the k20 is a great engine, but there is not much torque, and it needs to be revved to kingdom come (similar to an s2k to make power and speed up).
The 6 speed on those is great. Some people have issues with 3rd gear synchro (I had 4 rsx's same engine/transmissin basically and 2 had synchro issues). Some, and I'm guessing those that were not properly broken in, have the issue. Otherwise it shifts great and feels awesome.
Gas mileage isn't anything crazy, but 25mpg in the city and high 20's on the highway are norm. If you really watch your right foot you can squeeze 29-31 out of it on the highway.

the forester is a much better imo, but its hard to find an xt 5 speed, and gas mileage is quite low at high teens low 20's. it is an suv though. on the up side it has a ton more torque and awd

A good daily driver that's cheaper is a 2003~2004 5-door 2.3L 5-speed Ford Focus into which you transplant the $230 SVT suspension (shocks, springs, rear sway). Great handling and crisp quick steering. Good NVH compared to the competition. The 2.3L engine responds well to bolt-ons, AFAIK easy 150 whp.

Yeah, I've known a few ppl w/ the 06+ si's... they eat tires like candy and have alignment problems... I have 06 focus st (2.3 w/ the svt suspension) I get about the same mileage as the si's do, but lotsa torque and plenty fun to drive, cheaper to insure, cheaper to buy. Mine even has heated seats.

The 4 door Si is great compromise car. Fun and sporty enough, cheap to run and suprisingly roomy. I am always impressed by how much room there is in the back seat and the trunk.

The motor responds fairly well to a tune and simple bolt-ons. Hondata Flash Pro + Type R intake manifold plus I/H/E can get you a nice bump in HP and TQ while retaining good FE and reliability.

If you do end up getting one let me know if you have any questions. We race 06 si's in Grand AM, SCCA, and NASA so our team as a lot of experience with them.

Also, 8thgencivic.com has some good info, lot's of garbage on there too but if you can sift through it you can find some good stuff.

I have a 08 SI sedan (4 door). It's my wifes car but I drive it several times a week and took it to an hpde a couple months ago. I also have a 06 S2000, and I prefer the motor and trans out of the SI. I know the S2K is more powerful but that K20 and close ratio box just make the car fun. I have also seen the K20's pick up 35whp with a header back, intake, and tune. They understeer like a pig when hpde driving so I would assume the need a bigger rear sway bar. I really like the car and if I didn't have a Sequoia, that allows me to haul the kids around that S2000 would be a SI sedan.

You're old 99 civic was the best generation ever.

That being said, from what I've heard and driven in the new civics. They're are absolutely amazing. Nothing like the bastard 01-05 civics they replaced.

another car to look into is the same generation GTI.

i have the GTI 2 door and it is leaps and bounds better than the SI i test drove (both were 08's) the torque in the gti (215 ft lbs vs 160) makes the car alot more fun to drive at the same HP. and insurance is cheaper.

I've been driving it for 2 weeks now while the S2000 is in the shop for a rear bearing whine, and I just drove the 2 door verison the other day. I actually prefer the foor door handling. I think the car feels more stable. Here is a pic of mine...

My fiance has a white Mazda3 so I've been looking at red blue or black lol. I like the looks of the coupe but the four door definitely has more room.

I don't think I would enjoy the focus that much, I just can't see myself in one. I also don't plan on doing much to the car, rearsway and wheels maybe, but that's probly it. I would like to retain as much resale value as possible.

I also don't think I'll ever own a vw lol.

My 99 civic was just extremely slow in a straight line lol.

I've been looking at ones with 45-75k miles, prices from $10k-$15k. Guess I need to get my car sorted out and ready to sell come spring. Get my credit squared away for hopefully a decent rate and try to find someone needing to sell ASAP lol.

Sometimes with the coupe, you can find people needing to sell soon because a baby is on the way lol.

Fiji Blue looks pretty nice in most lighting..... there's also this Mugen for sale: http://bgky.craigslist.org/ctd/2130928361.html

My friend's Mugen Si was totaled out by his insurance company after the wheels, wing, bumper, steering wheel and some other interior bits were stolen.
