that's between him and the insurance company
see above
I know I would be going after the insurance company for the difference between the pre and post repair appraised value. I have a friend who did that and he got a decent check without to much difficulty.

The friend I mentioned earlier had bought a 13' chevy half ton. Had maybe 8-10k on it and was nearly totaled. Don't remember the exact amount he got back, but it was around 2k for a vehicle that retailed at the time for around ~20k I would guess. So 10% at least?

My dad's about to pull the trigger on a '16 Forester (Touring, probably with the Technology Package, at least in Canadian-market parlance). He considered going with the XT, but not having driven it, is leaning towards not needing the power at 71 years-old.
As a Subaru agnostic, to me it seems like a good car for him. What's the word among you tribals?
Edit: It seems that in the US, the Touring is the top trim above the Limited, while in Canada it's the other way around. Basically I think Dad is looking at a 2.5i Limited with EyeSight (but no navigation) in US terms.

Like pretty much everything about it except 2 things. I love how small and nimble the car is. I love the interior, the placement of everything, the position, the visibility. I love how easy and simple the clutch and shifter feels, I mean I can totally see one of these as a super fun commuter. Now about those 2 things: the power/torque. OH MAIIIIII!! I mean I cannot even put into words how slow it is. IMHO I have no idea what people are smoking when they say "it's quick if you keep the revs up". Nope, it's not. It's retarded slow. There is no power, anywhere, and at 6000rpm it feels about as quick as my turbo subaru does at 2500 out of boost. There is no way on earth I'd drive this thing stock, or even with n/a bolt ons. Nope, thank you very much. And it doesn't really want to rev out too, I can totally agree with (I think Ed) that said that. The other thing is throttle response. It's terrible. It's about the same as the super low comp turbo subaru's, which is really mediocre at best. I expected a high comp n/a subaru to be super snappy, like a miata, but it's not even close.
Overall I'd definitely (and likely will definitely) own one of these, but only with boost. Even a sc would likely wake this thing up to be fun enough to not wanna die every time you step on the throttle.

WRX:
It feels bigger. More grown up. More mature. Not nearly as raw as the GR. The dash/steering wheel/seats are definitely more upscale. Love the steering wheel and cluster. Do not like the seating position and the way the greenhouse is huge and reminiscent of a Prius. The chassis feels a lot better. Car is more composed, and much more confidence inspiring when flogged in corners. The power is pretty weak. I have no idea how it's supposedly running the same times stock vs stock as a GR, but I am convinced that on same gas (CA 91oct junk here) and with equal drivers, the GR would blow this thing out of the water. This thing has no top end. None. past 5500 you might as well be decelerating it's such a big drop off in power. The one I drove had straight pipe exhaust, and to my surprise was not only very docile, but actually sounded really good.
Overall not bad, but I'd also not drive one stock. it needs e85 really badly to actually put the engine/turbo to use, otherwise it's really slow. I really appreciate that it's more refined/quieter/more grown up, and LOVE the chassis stiffness increase.

The way to go is the new Edelbrock S/C. Stock header and CARB tune is ~250whp. Header + E85 should easily see 300whp on the stock pulley, but that's about the point the fuel system is getting maxed out and you need a clutch.
Below 5k the car is a dog, no doubt. It's decently quick if kept on boil, but you're also jaded with your 11sec STi!

the new wrx is so completely ugly i never considered it. seriously gotta be one of the least sexy cars out there.

Is there a linik to the edelbrock sc on a customer car?
I saw their advert thread and it looks promising but I take that with a healthy grain of salt.
So far of the turbo options I'm most interested in the AVO just based on looks and "how I'd do it".
With the sc options I'm kinda liking the JR and the Vortech, only because they don't use a W/A intercooler, but not ruling out other options.
It's really impressive how quick the aftermarket is growing for these things considering it's a blank sleight platform from only 2 years ago

They just started shipping, I think there are a few threads with vendors having installed them.....CounterSpaceGarage, Drift-Office, I'd have to go check the forum.
If I was going to go turbo on this platform.....probably the PTuning kit for me because it helps keep the heat out of the engine bay.
The aftermarket is absolutely insane. There are even companies selling aero stuff with the CFD to back it up.

I still think a modded Outback XT is the king unless you want to go around curves.
I mean, 19 bags of mulch:
Or 15' of scaffolding:
Or 1400lbs of flooring material:
With goodies like rerouted EWG (STi featured but the same one is on the OXT):
and King Springs:
And full LGT breaks, TMIC, etc. etc. But I digress, back to the talk about the BRZ.
But don't forget to remove these!!
