objective?

lol.

if you resume doesn't just regurgitate the job listing in your own words + some extra experience, you're doing it wrong.

your boss is going to get some shitty candidates (maybe that's why he hried you). Seriously, the objective of the resume is pretty inherent.

This,

And what is it with people not making cover letters? Is it laziness? Am I the only one who does / did this? I feel like I should read your cover letter and instantly know if I want to continue reading your resume or not.
I think a cover letter says a lot about a person.

Because when you aren't looking for a $30k a year job, headhunters come to you with offers?

All the interviews (some taken some not) I've had over the last 6 years have been from headhunters seeking out my experience.

I dont job hop, so it's been a long time since I updated my resume.

What industries do you guys work in that objectives aren't relevant? (foreshadowing answer: allofthem?)

I work in biomedical research, and it apparently matters to my boss.
I'm not sure if it matters, but the position called for someone with a masters or higher.

I, personally, work in a professional services firm (read: consulting). However, I am almost 100% positive that most/many quality resume guides will tell you to leave out the objective statement unless you're looking for an internship out of college. Its just extra space on the page that should be used for useful information like education, certifications, prior experience, etc.

objectives have finally been recognized as pointless. cover letters can describe your career goals just fine. objective statements all sound the same anyway. I desire the ******* job you're offering so I can pay my rent/mortgage/EFR turbo bill.

Maybe people should have more fun with them: Objective: I desire the boss' hot daughter topless in a bubbling tub with some bubbling beveraages. And 7 hour work days. And 50% more money. And RESPECT, dammit!

(note that this does not apply to my current bosses because their daughters are very far under any age limits)

I have been with my present company for 39 years. My two prior employers sought me out. The first of those recommended me to my present employer. I have never written a resume or cover letter; I am so glad I don't need a job in today's market.

Bah. My resume states my skills, some relevant job experience and that's about it. If I go looking, I contact a job shop that places me where my skills are needed.

I actually walked out of an interview where the guy was asking those retarded questions like, "what is your biggest weakness and what do you do to counter it?". He was furious, but the head engineer called me the next day and offered me the job.

My last two jobs before this one I was hired without even having an interview. Shop called me and told me where and when to show up for work.

I hated looking for a job my senior year of college. Now that I have some industry experience, I have to say it's really nice to have recruiters do all the dirty work for you.

I had my interview with HPD yesterday. I won't hear for a week, but based on the fact that the interviewer spent more time talking about the job and what I would be doing than he did asking me questions, I'm guessing I got it.

We'll see how interviewing goes with these people.

I feel like giving aptitude tests to some of these people applying.

I met with a recruiter yesterday, she is going to submit me for the position.

It would be nice to get since it would likely be a nice 5-figure raise.

$10,000?

Seriously though, it must be like browsing spam mail to be a recruiter sorting through all the garbage resumes That don't match anything close to the job description.

My objective is making money.

Therefor: my objective as mentioned in my resume is parroting whatever i feel is close enough to the job description without being blatant plagiarism.

I've fantasized about doing this every single time i've had an interview.

But that said, i've been offered a job after every interview i've ever had, so maybe i should keep on keeping on.

Who reaches out to a recruiter? Who sends resumes? Jesus are you all 73 year old Luddites?

LinkedIn account = recruiters contact me, not the other way around.

Philistines.

EDIT: Laugh at $10k, could be closer to $15k depending, but that's a nice chunk of change now that my divorce is about finalized.

I apologize, I didn't mean to insult. I misread. You said 5-figure raise , which I agree would be a fantastic raise. I read it original and laughed because I thought you said 5-figure salary as a typo.
