Looks pro, even with the brake tracks.

Let's just go over how financially fucked I've been in the last 12 months:
$9300 broken arm
$1200 to rebuild/build a CAAD10
$800 for 101s since the Flos died
$1800 for the Evo since the CAAD10 died
$4000 out of pocket for the tooth I have to get extracted since my root canal failed, including the implant that goes in it's place

I'm thinking about insuring my Evo for $3500 because I am totally out of savings right now and will be for a while considering I can't cover the cost of the dental procedure out of pocket. Is this foolish? It would be a $300 annual premium.

Should settle for more poverty next time so you don't have baller components and live in poverty.

Sucks about the health things though.

Is this the part where you tell me I should have spent $300 less and gotten a CAAD10 with 105 instead of my Evo with 6800?

No ****, "best healthcare in the world" and I have a gigantic keloid scar and failed dental work.

So, I've been thinking about getting FAT over the winter..

Has anyone ever heard about these?: Save up to 60% off new Fat Bikes and Mountain Bikes - MTB - Motobecane 2014 Fantom FB4 Comp

Seems like a well specced bike for the price. I did some digging, and as it comes shipped to your door for $700, it's ~35lbs without pedals. Seriously not half bad for a cheap fatty. And for pictures sake:

What say you, fellow heathens? This would be used for snow, mud, adventure riding, riding with my GF so that I get a better workout, and just for plain fun. I've ridden a fatbike and loved the way it felt, although i didn't get any extensive rides in.

Unless I was doing a lot of sand/snow riding, I wouldn't want a fatbike. Although you have a good idea WRT riding it alongside your girlfriend so you get something out of it.

According to the people I know who tried it. The fat bike was pretty beast going DH on the normal dirt, rocks, and roots. Just rolls over everything.

$250 for a point to point grandfondo plus $70 for bus and bike transport back to the start. Seems ridiculous. I can't believe I am going to sign up.

Koto/stealth, definitely kind of a novelty thing. I wouldn't ever want one as my "main" bike, or whatever.

I just think it would be fun to ride some of my more "boring" local trails on. I bet that I could still wipe out most people on those trails anyways They seem like a real blast downhill as well and would be a good skill/strength builder.

plus, snow riding!

Seems reasonable, a shitty bike can make old boring trails fun again, especially for only $700 or whatever that green bike costs. Those Borealis bikes in the Moab video seem pretty much retarded though- $6k for a hardtail with goofy tires. No thanks.

yeah, $6k is full tard. But then again, so are most bikes that cost 6k+ to be honest. It's not like you are having that much more fun riding them or anything vs a $2,000 bike.

This on the other hand, coming in around ~$1200 is pretty neat

Although if i do the fatbike thing, it's be a cheap rig for fun and goofing around. I do think the suspension models are pretty neat though and would like to try one.

I brought my parents tandem back to my shop last night to do some constructive measurements to be able to analyze it and its fit vs what I'm planning.

its a bit old, but its a Raleigh Companion... with 3x8 drivetrain and SR Suntour suspension fork. struggling to load it into my truck makes me think its somewhere in the 60-70lb range.

Having read a few articles on riding tandem, we have figured out the way to start/stop without looking like total noobs. (she stays feet on pedals, I control bike with her sitting happy on the back the whole time)

My wife has also found that she controls the balance of the bike. which she was playing around with as a joke.

I cant wait to get ours built, but unfortunately we wont be riding it until next year.

Besides the brief shot of sand, they aren't doing anything you can't do with a thinbike. Shudder to think what those tires are like on climbs.
