New Zealand bros - help me decide on a vehicle
#22
My wife drives a ST246 Caldina. It does look a lot like a corolla but a lot bigger in the back, more like the size of a Subie Impreza wagon.
I wanted a Stagea. She wouldn't even drive a Stagea - too ugly and too big (these things matter to the wife). She also wanted an Auto. ****.
Parts are not that bad if you know where to go. These is a useful forum in Australia for support, and there are a lot more of them in NZ than here. They are basically a GT4 Celica floor pan and chassis with a longer Corolla body. The 3S-GTE is not that uncommon, and has lots of aftermarket support in the MR2 community. They perform well but the 4 speed Auto lets them down, the ratios are too far apart. They are a bitch to work on, no space in the engine bay, but they are mostly bulletproof once the litte issues are sorted so that isn't a big deal either.
I'm not unhappy with it but I would personally prefer a Stagea or a WRX wagon, in manual.
