Sidebar: if you're going to upload an image to the web, and that image consists only of line art or text with a solid-color background, USE A ******* LOSSLESS COMPRESSION ALGORITHM SUCH AS GIF. Not only will the file size be smaller, but the image won't look like crap.

Personally, I find PNG a tad difficult to use. Maybe it's just the antiquated implementation of it within PaintShopPro, but with GIF, it's quite easy to set up transparency, and you never have to guess as to which algorithm it's going to use. PNG is almost too versatile.
