Yet Another Gun Thread

^I like the price for sure.
Military peeps:
My dad will not let me keep "assault weapons" at his house when I'm away, so do y'all have any long term weapons storage options? I've heard military camps/bases will let you check weapons into some sort of storage but I don't know if thats true or not. I imagine there are limits to how many guns and what types of guns they will let you store though.

^AFAIK, base armory's won't store weapons long-term. However, I don't know anybody who has asked or done the homework.
What if you made deal with your Dad that if you disassembled the guns to a non-firing state? What about another relative? You can always rent space in a standard commercial climate-controlled storage center... I don't know that it would be my first choice, but I've never heard of anybody having their shiz stolen out of one.

The commercial storage center will probably be my best bet. I also thought about assembling the rifle (AR) to look less "menacing" (remove iron sights, get 10 round magazine) and tell him it's something besides an AR. It's not so much the gun (in any state of assembly) but the fact the he does not want me to own one because the thinks assault rifles are eble, (therefor I must get one several).

What is the budget for your AR? I was considering building one, but was able to find a new M&P 15 Sport for $600. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...HS3cjqVUEbOdfA
I would have had more into a Palmetto State Armory or Del-Ton parts kit.

Pricing it out, with something like a DPMS lower I can build one for just under 500.00 with a Del-ton parts kit. Honestly though if I could get a S&W for 600.00 I would do that right now.

I've been looking for them since you said that and found a few for around 600. I found out that it's a "compliant" rifle, meaning no forward release, no dust cover, and instead of a regular mag release you can do with your finger it has a "bullet" release where you poke a pullet in the hole to release the mag.
Can you confirm this? Honestly that's way too many drawbacks if so.

So I'm building a budget AR for this year to do some bushwhacking with, etc up in the mountains here. I don't want top notch ---- at all, just something that fires reliably, is pretty lightweight, and cheap enough i dont care when i scratch it up and get it dirty.
Now that said, what do you guys think about Del-Ton upper receivers?
Componants include a pre-ban style ( with lug and birdcage comp ) DTI 16" 1x9 twist chrome moly M4 barrel, flat weaver type upper ( ready to accept all industry std carry handles, mounts, etc. ) bolt and carrier assembly
charging handle, forward sling swivel, and CAR handguards
Theres a few other uppers I was looking at, but after reading reviews on as many forums as I can, it seems these guys have a good rep for buildling reliable cheap AR's.
NOW, what about lowers. What is a good cheap lower to go with this upper? I was originally thinking DPMS or something of the sort. I also came across "PCM" or Plum Crazy Fireamrs composite lowers. Reading reviews for these I get mixed feelings, anyone have experience?

I don't see a 'C' on Bud's Guns right now but the 'A' and 'B' are going for <$500.
