Lighter works best for me probably, looking for over 16 so i can not have to pin/solder.

Wanting to take my pinned barrel off and have a smith do their own pinning. Looks to be fine, but I just don't feel like finding myself in trouble later for some guys bad work.

Assume you were going to own only one long gun. Primary uses would be range shooting and potential home defense. Two adults, some dogs and no kids in the (zero lot line) house. It would need to be operable by both occupants of the home (male and female). Total price needs to be under $1k and under $700 is better. No pumps.

I'm leaning towards a semi-auto shotgun like a Mossberg SPX (Benelli is out of the budget) but would also consider a Saiga-12.

I also have a pretty nice MEGA AR lower receiver that I've been toting around for a couple of years when I was thinking of doing a build, but I'm now thinking I would rather buy a complete piece if I go with an AR.

Why the full-length gas system? Do you really think the carbine-length is worse for some reason? 2" going to make a measurable difference?

A Remington 11-87 Police can be had for considerably less than $950 if you look hard enough. While I wouldn't choose a shotgun for home defense (semi-automatic or otherwise), they're great shotguns and within your budget.

I'm posting from my cell phone as I drive (lol!!!!), so forgive me if I'm brief/unable to link YT videos.

Personally, I would much rather grab my 9mm Colt carbine SBR over any one of the shotguns I own because I feel shotguns (their capacity specifically) limit the user. I'd much rather have 32 rounds of Ranger SXT 9mm +P on tap than a tube of 3" 00 buck, especially if a woman winds up having to shoot it. You can buy low recoil loads, etc but I still feel the 12 ga makes follow-up shots difficult, especially under stress. Having fired a wide range of auto shotguns at a rapid rate, I can tell you that I much prefer the low recoil of a 9mm Colt Sporter (if you were closer, I'd let you shoot mine) as its blowback operation is one hell of a smooth system.

If you subscribe to the school that believes in knockdown power and that one pellet from a 00 buck shell is enough, thenn idk what to tell you other than that I strongly disagree. If you're stupid enough to shoot a slug in your own house, then lol.

Used 9mm Colt Sporters can be had in yourr price range, without the NFA flavor of course. The only downsides I can really think of is the "weakness" of the 9mm cartirdge, the relatively high cost of factory mags (~$45), non-removable carry handle (A1 config) and the fact that they get filthy after drunken afternoon of shooting abandoned cars.

Perhaps you can find a Kel-Tec Sub2000 configured for Glock mags and overlook the shoddy craftsmanship and treat it gingerly (my buddy knocked the front sight blade off of his TWICE). Alls I know is I keep my Colt within arm's reach andi know it'll work every time.

Full length gas system to do a tuned game gun. You know... one of the ones you dial back to just where it functions on one set of ammo and no more . Full length gas/adjustable gas block/lightened BCG.

I bought a brother this morning for the CZ52 I got last week. It is a '53 Romanian Tokarev TTC. Paid $240 for the gun, holster, cleaning rod, two magazines and 336 rounds of ammo. I've heard horror stories about the safety placement but it looks like they did a pretty good job of installing it (does not interfere with the grip at all).

Just got a Mossberg 500 12g from a gun show in town the other day. Put on an M4-style stock and have a rail and light on the way.

My wife is deathly afraid of shotguns, and I don't think it'd be her go-to in case of break-in. She seems more comfortable with handguns and the lower recoil.

Any suggestions for her and her delicate feminine hands?

I hate the thing but she absolutely loves it for some reason. I can shoot about 3 rounds through it before my wrist hurts so bad that I have to stop. You might try a semi-auto or a 20 ga if it is too much for her.

Looks like the exact same as mine, I had to go home and get proof that I live in NC IOT buy one with a pistol grip (I'm a FL resident, legally). And then as soon as I took it out of the box I put on the stock that, had it been installed in the first place, would've made fetching my orders unnecessary.

Even the ATF guys said it was a stupid rule.

i've kept a 3" slugger in my mossberg since i got it for home defense, but after watching those vids that pusha referred to the other day, i think i'm just going to keep buckshot in it from now on - i live in an apt - i don't want a stray slug flying through the walls and killing a neighbor..

I have a Sig 230, loaded and de-cocked, under a combination lock where my wife can get to it quickly. When I took her to the range to learn to shoot, I started her with a .22 Ruger. I then had her shoot my Glock 19 and we settled back on the .380 where she was more comfortable.
