Default Pics from the Jan 31 Autocross

These are the pics I took at the Jan 31 Autocross just outside of Tampa, Florida. There was a wide mix of cars in attendance. The Miata was supercharged and intercooled, the black Evo was quick and the Porsche Turbo was FTD. The two Skyline GT-R's are pictured near the end.

I was trying out the new Nikon's sport feature (fast shutter, quick sequential shots) and I haven't figured it all out yet. I was trying to catch the cars in places where they would exhibit body roll, but some had race suspensions, so not as dramatic looking as they really were. The gallery has a slideshow function and the ability to change the delay between shots. Enjoy.

The weather was 65*F and sunny.

I may not know much about turbo charging miatas but I know my fair share of shooting. The shots look really ood, however if you slowed your shutter down a tad and panned with the cars it would give a perception of speed. It would blur the wheels a little and not make the object "appear" static even though you know it's hauling ***. I haven't shot auto-x before but have seen plenty of shots. I rated some of the first nice ones I saw, didn't have it in me to see all 300 ha. If you want to get some of that roll you should be at a head on perspective to the car. But that may require a longer lens than you have. Good shots, keep them coming. Maybe link your 3 favorite on here and let people look at the rest if they would like as well.

Yeah, the standard 28mm-55mm zoom was all I had, and it wasn't enough. I'll dial down the shutter speeds next time and see what happens. That was the default, and I didn't have the manual with me to refer to. OK, a couple of sample pics.

When you try to pan the shots try a shutter speed around 1/80 or 1/100 and go from there. Review it on the LCD and if it looks like they are a little blurry make the shutter a little faster. I tip is to keep your focus point on one spot of the car, say the side view mirror, and move the camera keeping that spot in the focus. Now if you're going to do head on type shots there is no reason to pan and you can shoot high shutter speeds to capture the action. Another thing that will help is get different perspectives than standing with camera shoulder height. Sit down, lay down, whatever, but you would be surprised how perspective changes the dynamics. Good luck!

You need the 18-200mm VR lens for your Nikon man. I got it for my D40 and love it.

I've been eyeballing that puppy for a little while now. Is that the best all-around lens for a zoom? I don't need to go up to a 300mm or anything?
The money is funny right now anyway. Actually there is nothing funny about it. It sucks. If I had money to spend it would be on five other projects/hobbies. And I just replaced the water heater in the house on Sunday. $$$$
