Miata new person and a what's it worth!
Hello everyone, I've recently aquired a 2000 Miata LS with 87k on the odometer. Now, I bought this car because my Corvette is heading towards the door.
Meat and potatos...I'm looking at the turbos from the MSM to maintain some sort of OEM and I want the early spool, low(8psi?) boost. I'm not going wild, just want a little more power.
With that said, I've found an MSM kit and the gentleman is asking for 465 shipped. Here is what is included, and I need to know if it's a good/bad/fair deal.
exhaust manifold, elbow to downpipe, heatshields, turbo, turbo inlet elbow, external wastegate, coolant return line to the water pump coolant neck, as well as all the banjo bolts for oil and coolant connections braided oil supply and drainlines with AN fittings, turbocharger to motor mount support bracket, and the fourth heat shield.
There is another one with the intercooler for more money on FB. What do you guys think?

I see nothing in your post about injectors or fuel management. So what you call meat and potatoes is really the side dish because without the meat (ECU) you've wasted money. And you'll need the IC. So, read up and do it the right way.

Buying an LS and adding the MSM mechanical bits + pcs does not equal MSM.

I'm sure others will chime in soon.

I know I'd need fuel management, I was going to source that stuff. I was just wondering about the price portion of the parts since 465$ didn't seem like a lot for them and being low cost could have me up and reliably running a bit sooner. Everyone likes low cost!
I have another source that has the MSM manifold, turbo, and all piping and intercooler etc for ~700. Again, not sure if that's a great deal on those in particular. I've searched for resale values and what that stuff should sell for and I haven't reached anything conclusive.

Get the MK Turbo kit from the ongoing group buy and a MSPNP ECU, injectors, and a wideband o2 and you will be most of the way to a good, reliable setup. Nobody here likes the factory MSM crap. It was never a good setup to start with.

Snd the MSM doesn't really have an intercooler if you've ever seen one. It is the size of a Trapper Keeper and about as useful for a turbocharged Miata.

I dunno...I'm also trying to understand a lot of things.
After a lot of research of the OE kit, I don't understand how the MK2 would be better for what I need.
465 vs 1300 and I get way more useable parts with the 465 kit. I already have an exhaust. I understand the MK2 kit would be BETTER, but the OEM kit seems like it could still be reliable, still work, give me what I'm looking for, etc. Ending cost with the mk2 would still be much higher....I dunno...I can't see much of a difference. If I wanted more boost, sure.
I dunno...I feel like the guy at the gym looking for X kind of working out while here could possibly be Y. I'm not trying to lose a valuable resource and good connections if I go the OEM route, or be shamed to the oblivion :P

I've run 11-13lbs/horsepower ratio in cars for a while, and that's where I'm comfortable.

Other than that, IMO For a simple no thinking full daily driving kit installation I'd recommend Voodoo II turbo system for NB chassis - As low as $2,345.00
You'll still have stock ecu, voodoo IIpoo box for when boost kicks in, and a very responsive turbo with some power. For 'visuals', just paint shiny parts flat black

I live in Franklin County, PA. Sometimes you have to "plug in" the OBD2 in some counties in PA, others are a "visual no-tampering" inspection, and maybe a plug in if the CEL is on. I figured they wouldn't bat an eye at the MSM kit.
I figured I was just better off going megasquirt and tuning it myself on piggyback. I've only ever used tuning software with GM stuff and it wouldn't trip CEL because it was from the factory customization ability. Was hoping to not trip the dashboard with whatever I have to use to give it the most reliable tuning for lower boost.
