Default Built a turbo miata, and then bought it.

Hello!
New here, new to turbos as well, miatas have always found their way into my life though. I'm an IT technician and avionics/airframe student at north central airport.

I'll keep it short on the backstory: i helped my friend build a turbo miata with an MS2 and BEGI turbo kit.
then it sat for 3 years until i bought it last week.
My forte is with suspensions and chassis, I can build an engine but I'm still learning the steps involved in tuning them with the megasquirt.

I'll get some pictures up when i can, so far all i have is an image the map i found on the ECU:

..yea not using that.

things I need before driving:
>intercooler
>clutch
>a good target map

Give me some time while I look through the forums, hopefully I can get caught up and solve my crappy tune issue and share some awesome pictures of the nightmare im cleaning out of this car.

Welcome to the site. Looking forward to seeing pics of your new project.

What are your plans for the future?

to be honest I dont really know, I ended up buying the car while I repair my civic (engine got worked a little too hard at the last track day). I suppose for now the plan is to get it running reliably at 8 PSI and see how that works out. from there I'll do my thing with the suspension and try it out on the track (never driven a turbo car on a track).
here's a picture from my phone I found.

Looks like a nice car. Where is "North Central Airport"? As an avionics guy, you're going to love playing with MS. I fixed up a basket case with my Red car too!

Clarksburg West Virginia.
And Yea, the more I read the more I like it. The tedious part is figuring out where to start

That forest green is so subtly nice, that color is really growing on me. Or maybe I just don't want my car to always scream out of a megaphone saying, "LOOK AT MY REALLY NOTICEABLE CAR COLOR" all the time.

Either way, nice car. You'll find MS no problem at all with your background. If a dumbass like me can get it to work anyone can.

Thanks everyone.

I'm about to head out and do some pulls.
mistakes i've made:
1. not turning off EGO correction when running VE analyze (adds erroneous and inflated data)
2. left the stock 1.5" exhaust on from the DP back. I've unhooked that for now, i live in the middle of no where so no one will care. I'll fab up an exhaust ASAP.
3. asked my brother to fill the tank... who filled it with 87 octane >.<

other than that, after some hand tinkering with that VE map i posted, its running much better. a little stumble when getting on the gas and theres no power in 4th or 5th so its obviously still in need of some tuning.

I'll start a build thread here soon with some pictures.

I'm going to take a step back and stop driving the car.

The more I tinker with this the more I feel I'm in over my head. the car is garaged for right now, I can't solve the stumble issue and its just puking fuel into the engine.
What I need is someone to get me set in the right starting point, so in the meantime I'm just going to pour through the forums and get an idea on what people are doing as well as start from square one with MS's 1.8 turbo basemap.

until then, the project is on hold.

Good looking car, should be a good starting point for the addiction.
