Default Greetings from Central NY

Hey, all. Currently hiding from the salt-covered streets here in Syracuse is my 2000 Evolution Orange LS. I picked it up a couple of years ago with a leaking radiator and a bent antenna. That solved, I gave it a FM front bar and a set of Illuminas.

Naturally, there's a reason I'm here, and I'm looking forward to the community's support. There's a lot of good information here, but I haven't found the answer to this question yet:

I absolutely have to meet OBD-II spec for NYS inspection. While things like FM's Voodoo Box and static timing plate can work, I'd like to get something more capable. As unpopular as they are, piggybacks seem to be my option. I've seen accolades and bashing of all of them, including the standalones that can be used in a piggyback fashion. Is there a general consensus on what's good and what's junk?

Next, I have to figure out how to bang out 14 more posts without spamming so I can send someone a PM. Wish me luck!

I am in the same boat, smog wise. I have never heard a good answer; some suggest installing turbo/standalone, and putting back to stock once a year for inspection. Way too much screwing around, IMHO.

Like the color.

Another price we pay for living in New York. I picked the car up in Penfield. The mobile DMV thing out there was fantastic.

I get a lot of compliments on the color, surprisingly from all sorts of people. The car could have been any color; I just bought it because it was optioned right, in my price range and everything worked, barring the simple fixes I mentioned. Conveniently, our current plates blend with it enough that they're not an outrageous blemish on the car!

Welcome to the forum.

While a standalone is ideal, if I needed to retain plug-in compliance I would use a piggyback MegaSquirt and secondary injectors that only come online when in positive manifold pressure.

Hey man welcome I haven't posted a lot on here yet either but been looking around a long time. I see by your license plate you are a subaru guy too. Noticing a lot of people with miatas and subarus (great DD and toy combination). I am located in Southern Tier of NY so if you make it to any of the Autox's down this way hit me up at an event.

I was waiting for someone to notice the plate! Still waiting on the question that follows, though.

I've been to Glen and SNY events in the past. A few seasons ago I ran at TC3 (gone now IIRC) and it poured like hell. I like the WGI media lot. Haven't been to the Ithaca venues, although I don't know if those are still available, either. I'll let you know if I'll be around! Meantime, if you get a chance, CNY will be running at the Fairgrounds again, and there are few bigger spaces than that in upstate anymore.

So what is your Subaru?

I have wanted to make it up to the Syracuse Fair grounds but always been busy. I run with Glen and SNYR a lot. I want to make it up to Cherry Valley event too.

What car did you run at the events you went to? I am sure I've seen you at some of them. I have the red miata with 2 black racing stripes.

The wife and I have his 'n' hers Foresters. When I sell mine, I get hers as a hand-me-down, and she gets a new one. She'll only drive a stick, so it works nicely for me!

The last three seasons, I raced my Miata. Before that, I had a season with a silver SVX, two or three with a white SVX, and before that, my old Legacy wagon!

I miss my '05, but the '10 still rocks:
