Greetings from Omaha - Bought second NA as a project
Hello everyone! A few of you may have already seen me post up in my bad surprise/good surprise thread here:
https://www.miataturbo.net/engine-pe...-please-71309/
My first miata was a 91 that I got for $800 with a broken timing belt. Put in a new T-belt, water pump, and some other bits and have been using it for the last two years as a daily. My garage queen is an 05 s2000, but we're here to talk Miatas right?
I've been wanting to get into the miata game for a while, so I picked up a 92 with a blown motor that is in better cosmetic shape than my 91. The idea behind it is to build up then sell off the old 91 for a new to me, more fun daily.
My core of my plans WERE:
Goal: 250 rwhp
94-97 1.8 Swap
1.8 Rear whenever the 1.6 blew up
FM Manifold/Downpipe (their homebrew kit)
GT28RS
MSPnP - pump gas tune
Obnoxious makes me smile everytime BOV (anything but SSQV please)
eBay IC pipes/IC
2.5" Straight through exhaust
If you saw my thread, when I ordered my 1.8, I received a 99/00 motor and 6speed not knowing it. After seeing the feedback from my thread, I decided I'd keep it. The main thing that changes in my plans is more heavily considering e85 given the higher compression of this motor. I'm even considering going with the Hydra and their Flexfuel support, but that's some big $$$
Thought?

The motor you have is basically identical to the MSM motor. You will have no problems boosting it for street use. 9.5:1 will just make it hit det before MBT, which will make it harder to tune safely, but otherwise be inconsequential.
You can run E85, but you can't use the extra power anyway without bending the stock rods.

Maximum Brake Torque.
E85 will allow you to run more advanced timing, which on our engines = moar torques. But you can easily get to 250wtq safely on pump gas with your turbo of choice. E85 will let you safely run ALLOFIT on 9.5:1, but if you do that you will bend the stock rods.
