Default New guy, looking to get a Miata

First I'd like to introduce myself.

I'm Alex from a small town(4000 people) in Minnesota. I've been a long time Audi guy but I'm fed up with understeer and looking to get into something that can handle an apex better. I'm a college student at the University of Minnesota and I don't really need a winter car since public transportation is excellent in the metro area. Also, because I'm a college student, I'm strapped for cash. I really would like an e36 M3 but, I think it would be wiser to pick up a Miata and go from there. My A4 was my first car, my first real investment, my first real problems, my first real experience of self induced acceleration and speed, the first time I held my life in my own hands, my first big project, my first hobby, and my first obsession. Prior to purchasing the A4, my adolescent mind was set on buying a Honda Civic hatch, EG or EK. I would spend hours lurking on Honda forums and JDM blogs daydreaming about slammed Japanese cars. I was fed up with driving a broken minivan and decided if I wanted something enough, I need to go out and grab it myself. A year of work and frugal spending, I was able to save up $3000. I was 17 and the hunt was officially underway. I scanned craigslist but was always faced with ghetto ricers or overpriced 200k mile daily drivers. I contacted a distant relative of mine who owned a small dealership a couple hours away about getting a Honda civic. I was set on getting my Honda but he said they were hard to find and I should look for something else. Alas my pursuit was unwavering. I attended a dealer auto auction hours away and bid on several cars but didn't win any. One of which was a red early Tiberon, I dodged a bullet there. Another couple of fruitless weeks passed and I received a call from said car dealer relative. He said " I have a 1998 Audi Quattro here in your price range, let me know if your interested." "What the frack was an Audi Quattro?" I asked myself. A quick Google searched revealed an 80's rally car. "Hmmm, this isn't right" I thought, so I dug a little further. I ended up on the Wikipedia page for the B5 Audi A4. I looked into the info and noticed it there was a variant with a turbocharger 4 cylinder engine. This began to look more promising than those puny NA Honda engines. So in my youthful impatience I chose a date to view this mystery machine. It was nearing dawn and I was had no experience driving a stick. I violently shimmied this strange silver sedan down a country road at a legal pace. The interior mated with all the premium features had me sold. I was done with cheap Japanese interiors and set on German attention to detail. Those first couple of weeks after buying the car were incredibly frustrating. I knew how a manual transmission worked, I had the car, I just couldn't get it to work smoothly like it did in my head. After dark I would go out for hours, practicing and practicing, trying to prefect this new art. At this point, I had basically surpassed everyone in my family's knowledge in cars. So in this endeavor, I was truly on my own and so my obsession with the automotive world officially begins. Earlier this summer I went on a road trip with some friends that I had met through Audi forums and eventually in real life.We traveled to the Black Hills in South Dakota. I was gifted enough to be granted a ride/drive in a couple very nice rwd cars (nsx-t&m3's). That experience really sold me on getting a rwd car and so I am here.

These were the modifications to my A4

Engine

• Borg Warner KO4-15 turbocharger
• Bosch 310cc Red top injectors
• GIAC PC-16 tuned ECU
• ECS adjustable fuel pressure regulator with gauge
• 710N Diverter valve
• Swiss cheesed airbox.
• Test pipe (gutted cat)
• 2.5'' stainless exhaust piping from downpipe to Magnalow 14815 muffler

Exterior

• Clear cornered facelift headlights
• B6 Audi A4 rims with Kumho Ecsta ASX tires (also have stock rims+tires)
• Blacked out grill surround
• Debadged trunk

Interior

• Black sport cloth seats
• Alpine CDA-9884 headunit
• Pioneer front speakers & factory rears
• VDO boost gauge integrated into center vent

Here's a couple pictures of my A4 when I bought it and sold it.
When I first brought it home

When I sold it

Now I'm looking for a Miata!

Also curse your 15 post before I can PM rule! I'm interested in couple cars members are selling but alas I don't have my own to post about and it's hard to contribute without a car.

Cheesy picture to shamelessly build post count and attribute a face to a name.

Welcome to the forum. These guys like to have their fun, so don't worry about it.

90-93 cars had a weaker diff unless it was changed. They also had a bit smaller brakes but that is easy and cheap to swap. All had forged crankshafts and can build really good power.

Good luck.

Yea I've read that. Unfortunately there's only pre 93 models in my area. I've emailed a couple people who are states away but no luck as of yet.
