MS install
Still having the same issue as the last attempt a few weeks ago. I have reloaded a new megatune about 50 times, trying this every way I can. I am using the instructions below.
The connection test is good. When I go 'online' it freaks out, starts beeping, and some of the gauges start bouncing. See attatched screenshot to see the error message.
This is a brain built squirt. My computer skills suck. Wtf am I doing wrong?
You should start with a fresh install of Megatune.
http://www.megasquirtpnp.com/downloa...tup_021108.exe
1. Run the installation software for MegaTune allow the software to install to the default location.
Open the directory and leaving just the 9093 WITHOUT AFM to use, delete all the remaining 9093 or 9495 folders. Rename it to something like “Project Folder”
then go here: Index of /MS/msq/firmware
1. Copy msns-extra.ini and msns-extra.ini.hr10 to C:\Program Files\MegaSquirt\MegaTune2.25\mtCfg
Open the Megatune Software
go to file > Configurator
under MegaTune2.25, highlight msns-extra.ini.hr10, then go to file activate.

your MS doesn't have any installed firmware it seems, did you attempt to reflash the unit with new firmware? and if so why?
....you also didn't activate HR code.
cant tyson or phil help you?
here's what you need to do:
Download and install easytherm: http://www.megamanual.com/files/soft...ll_Install.zip
Download this firmware file: http://boostedmiata.com/MS/msq/firmw...lone_noafm.s19
Download the MSQ I preloaded: http://boostedmiata.com/MS/built/94m...0906180751.msq
unplug your igniter/coils. You must do this else risk damaging them, and by risk I mean you will.
power on the MS, open easytherm. Select Custom under code version, select your com port, and then click download to MS. Use the .s19 you just downloaded.
click yes under any prompts, and let the easytherm software flash 1775 lines of code. Do not do anything else while the software is flashing, or it will freeze; if it does freeze start over.
Now you can close EasyTherm and turn off the power. Turn on the power again and open MT (after you correctly activate the HR code). You must now go to file open and load the MSQ.
once that msq is done loading, after the beep, you can replug in your coils and try to start the car.

Got it to idle pretty well, but I had to open up a vacuum line to get it to be smooth, otherwise it would barely stay alive.
RPM's are still not showing, so something is still off.

She squirts!!
Got her running with the help of Phil (thanks!) this past Saturday!
Main issue was the software install in my laptop (Scott called it). Phil put his Megatune on a little memory stick and installed it into my computer. All good after that.
Have been driving back and forth to work with no issues. Trying to figure out a few minor issues. Been doing some reading to figure it out, but figured I would post up the update.
1. RPM is not showing in the dash. Was working perfectly fine with the stock computer. Megatune shows RPM.
2. KPA is waaay off. Shows around 157kpa with engine off. I did realize today that the map sensor is set for the 400 rather than the 250. Going to change that and see if it does anything in the morning.
We did the initial tuning with Phil's computer. When driving home and since things have been ultra rich.
Should I leave the barometric correction on? I am at sea level.
3. Coolant temp is way off too. I figure there is an easy way to calibrate this when I know ambient temp with a cold engine.
4. AIT way off. Reading very high, about 70* above ambient. Also looking for the way to calibrate this.
I am reading through all of the manuals to find the solutions. But, if you know the answers, please post up!

you dont have a baro sensor with the 250MAP sensor, so leave it off.
surprised about the coolant and ait readings. You're standalone right? unless I accidentally flashed piggyback values. I can walk your through reflashing the unit if you need to.

ok yeah, needs a firmware flash.
- Save your current msq.
- Go here and download this utility to reflash the MS: http://www.megamanual.com/files/soft...ll_Install.zip
- unplug your coils. You must do this else risk damaging them, and by risk I mean you will.
- open Easy Therm. Select Custom on the side and and make sure the correct com port is selected.
- Power up your MS (key to ON) and click Download to MS; select the hr10g_xxx.s19 file you downloaded from my site. http://www.boostedmiata.com/MS/msq/firmware/Standalone/
- Ignore any prompts, just click yes. Don't touch anything while it's flashing else it will freeze and then you'll have to open the MS and install a boot jumper the next time you try it.
- It will load around 1775 lines. Once complete, close the program and recycle power to the MS.
- Open MT and open up the last map you saved. Once it's done, check the CLT and MAT values, if the car has sat overnight, they should be within 1-2°F of each other.
- Only now should you replug in your coils.

This is where I become computer retarded.
How to save msq: Do I open Megatune, click File, Save As, then save somewhere?
For EasyTherm, I did this once before, but I can not figure out how to do it again. I downloaded, per the link, unzipped, then installed. After the install I can not find the program to open!?!?! See below for the screen shots of where I was guessing it would be.
In your number 5, the link does show a .s19 file, but it does not list the hr10g_xxx.s19.
So that is where I stand, so far no progress. The car is driving now, and I do not want to screw that up. So I need a little hand-holding

Bump to have someone school me on some 'simple' ****. I want to get this sorted out this weekend.
I need to do a firmware flash. This is the stuff I do not understand:
How do I save msq?
-Do I open Megatune, click File, Save As, then save somewhere?
-Something completely different?
EasyTherm:
-I did this once before, but I can not figure out how to do it again.
-I downloaded, per the link, unzipped, then installed. After the install I can not find the program to open!?!?! Where the **** is it?
Location of the correct .s19 file:
In your number 5, the link does show a .s19 file, but it does not list the hr10g_xxx.s19.
Thanks!
Shane

While hooked up to your MS click file, save as then save it somewhere. I can't help on the rest as I had trouble myself.

Got it. Reflash in the morning.
EasyTherm was there, it was a 1KB shortcut. I hate computers.
Edit: reread the link and realized it is right (minus the 'hr')

Back to the beginning
I reflashed the MS. Wrote the 1775 lines (or whatever it is).
Tried to load the msq, and it was showing numbers in the fuel table that were very far off. Was able to get it to idle, and it could barely drive.
Wound up reloading the base map from MegaSquirtPNP by DIYAutoTune.com. Car startes, idles and drives. Lost all of the fuel tuning that I had been happy with.
MAP started reading correctly the other day without me doing anything. It is still reading fine now.
I still do not have the tach in the dash working. It does work in megatune.
Coolant and IAT are close enough to where they could be true.
So my only real issue is that the tach is not working.

the tach on the dash not working should not be a MS issue, but it's possible, try a 1K resistors between b+ and Ig- in the diagnostics box. But yeah you were supposed to save and load the current MSQ that was loaded on the MS before firing it up.
