Default aem vs lc-1? which is preferred?

i am looking at these 2 widebands and i dont know which 1 to go with... the lc-1 with meter is about 400 and the aem is 250ish?+1 for aem... i have spoken with a few tuner shops and they all are more familiar with the aem wb than the lc-1.+1 for aem... but, the lc-1 does a little more from what i read...+1 lc-1... so, where do you guys stand?

I run the AEM and like it alot so far. The gauge is nice and the all-in-one package is a plus. The sensor never needs calibration because it comes with a calibration resistor installed so that is never a problem. It has the wiring and ability to datalog AFR and can be plugged into any EMS via the 1-5v output.
I think the LC-1 has more datalogging outputs or something otherwise I don't know any other benefits, they both calculate AFR, what else do you want.

I run the Aem and so far really like it. It only has the 0-5V output, so you can't get rid of your narrowband, but it is a real small package and works really well.

I'd wait and see what kind's of results we end up seeing from the BEGI unit.

Do you mean that the AEM does an auto-calibration every so often? Because wideband sensors definitely need to be recalibrated every so often.

I prefer the LC-1/LM-1 because of the ability to simulate the narrowband output.

Why is everyone under the impression the LC-1 is so expensive. The LC-1 with narrowband gauge will run you about $250. By itself, $180 shipped. As cool as their gauge is, you are paying for a fancy do-dad.

Bsaically they do the same;

AEM has the advantage on price with thier gauge they include. (LED readout and sweeping LED). I personally wish I had just a LED readout.

The LC-1 can output to (2) devices, while AEM only one. However, since the AEM unit is already outputing to a dedicated gauge, the technically output the same. Hook a gauge to the LC-1 and you only have one 0-5v output left.

If you want the cheapest possible solution, go with the LC-1 and the cheapest narrowband A/F gauge you can find.

Or even better, just get an LC1 and datalog with your laptop. Much more useful than a gauge.

From AEM's FAQ website, they explain it better than I.

"Q: Why is there a sensor and also a module? Is the module a heater controller?
A: UEGO type sensors output a small current that must be conditioned and corrected based on a number of operating parameters. This is what the module does. Without the module, the sensor is useless. The majority of the sensor’s "brains" are in the module. Also included in the module is the heater controller, but it is only one part of the controller."

The module that they speak of contains a resistor that calibrates the controller/sensor with a known value calculated by AEM at the factory with that exaxt Bosch sensor. It does that at every startup. The catch with AEM, you have to use their controller combo when you want to replace the unit in the DP.

There is nothing wrong with the LC-1 I wanted the Digital readout. I'm all about saving some money. I wanted the AEM because for that gauge it was the cheaper solution. I already have a NB gauge and could have hooked it up just as easily.

Myfonti, I have an autometer NB AF gauge with silver face and ring that I can sell you if you want it.

If you think $9 is too much for a digital readout for an LC-1 then you are pretty tight!

You can't really put that in the same league as the AEM display and say the additional $65 over the LC1 wasn't well spent.

No, YOU can't put that in the same league as the AEM display. I have no problem putting it in that league and saying the $65 extra would be wasted <G>. Actually, I still haven't installed it because I find no need to have a display.

The LC-1 comes with LM-1 datalogging software.

Neither will log AFR against anything but time. So the data loggin feature is nice, but with out plotting against RPM has limited usefulness. You can purchase for an additional $129 an add-on to the LC-1 that allow logging of four additional inputs, SSI-4.

The modular nature of innovate products make them very cool, I don't think anyone else offers that.
