I broke my 1.6 Differential
So last night my 92 DD miata started making a strange noise when I would slow down. I found a loose starter bolt and figured that was it. So I tightened it in and went for a drive. It was still making the noise. So I finally went under the car. This is what I found.
This is a bone stock 92 with 325k on it. Has anyone ever seen a differential break like that?
Now I am off in search of a new one.

So I see I'm not the only one with problems! So will you be doing a Torsen swap or stick with the factory viscous? I've got a viscous on the shelf I can sell you (came out the track car) - shipping would be a bitch tho

I want another cheap 1.6 diff because I am a cheap bastard. I don't have $400-$600 right now to spend to upgrade to a 1.8 diff. Also my turbo car is currently down till next weekend when I get my turbo back. So I need something fast. There is a local miata shop down the street from me. I am going to see if they have one Monday morning that I can get for cheap.

Obviously you are new to the miata scene. Welcome.
The 1.6 diff is a ticking time bomb and really has no true life span. It could go at any time. Just gone one lasted XXX miles, doesn't mean the second will. If anything it lowers your odds of getting another good one.
