Default I broke my 1.6 Differential

So last night my 92 DD miata started making a strange noise when I would slow down. I found a loose starter bolt and figured that was it. So I tightened it in and went for a drive. It was still making the noise. So I finally went under the car. This is what I found.

This is a bone stock 92 with 325k on it. Has anyone ever seen a differential break like that?

Now I am off in search of a new one.

So I see I'm not the only one with problems! So will you be doing a Torsen swap or stick with the factory viscous? I've got a viscous on the shelf I can sell you (came out the track car) - shipping would be a bitch tho

I mean why not another 1.6L for his 350K mile miata? I bet he already found one for $50.

Because it's really tough to drive like an adult when it's wet out and working on drift skills.

You could prolly find an open 1.8 diff for uber cheap. Why change the diff it out in possibly another week when you could jsut use a 1.8 diff and be good for evs.

That's exactly the same way my 1.6 diff broke when I was running my old GReddy kit. Could have sworn that you took the pics from my old post years ago. Haha.

I want another cheap 1.6 diff because I am a cheap bastard. I don't have $400-$600 right now to spend to upgrade to a 1.8 diff. Also my turbo car is currently down till next weekend when I get my turbo back. So I need something fast. There is a local miata shop down the street from me. I am going to see if they have one Monday morning that I can get for cheap.

I got ridiculous wheel hop with my old tires in the wet sometimes, not good for your diff.

an open 1.8 diff is 400--600? I bet someone on here has one for cheaper than that. Either way doesn't really matter I guess. 2 miatas ftw.

This one lasted 325k, how's he going to do that in a week? Even he gets half that mileage out of another used 1.6 it'd be worth saving the 1.8 premium.

I'm with you Lars, cheap forever! then again, I want to be buried in a cardboard box.

Obviously you are new to the miata scene. Welcome.

The 1.6 diff is a ticking time bomb and really has no true life span. It could go at any time. Just gone one lasted XXX miles, doesn't mean the second will. If anything it lowers your odds of getting another good one.
