if you have it in your hands, it is fine as Dan said. The dampers in question never made it past QC at our shop. There were just a lot of them and that's why we don't use BHJ anymore.

Nihilist Miata life is non-consequential life.

Need Damper advice here. We are building an 1800 turbo motor to be in the region of 300-400 hp.

We have Manly rods (or similar), Wisco pistons. ARP fasteners everywhere, Boundary Oil pump, 949's suggested water pump. 949 racing twin plate clutch all properly balanced at a top race machine shop.

I had presumed that the aftermarket damper wasn't necessary due to it suddenly not being listed on 949's site awhile ago. Now I see above that it was a production problem and not a "not required" anymore problem....

do we NEED an "improved" damper if we are running the boundary oil pump etc...?

I appreciate it is probably NICE to have but at this point funds are getting very tight and i am yet to buy the skunk TB!

Can i run a few meetings and add this later or does it need to be balanced with all the engine parts prior to build....?

You sure can run without for a few events. Might blow up. But you can do it.

Or you can get a little extra safety margin and get the ATI damper now. And it might blow up anyways. But then you could at least know that you did the "right" thing and as much as you could to further the longevity of your motor.

???

I've never heard that was needed. People replace stock ones all the time with them.

Time to start a new generic thread about crank dampers. We have no ETA for the gen 2 dampers so this thread title might confuse people.

Was this new thread ever started? I'm in the hunt for a damper so I'm interested in an alternative to the ATI one.

When we have dampers, they will be on our website. We won't keep it a secret.

Again, no ETA.

I know you said no ETA, but just wanted to say I'm another person that is interested and will buy one when you have them.
