We finally have a car in house to test it on. It is a 1.8L NA. I have a NB manifold going out to someone next week for a stock application. I am still waiting on the 1.6L manifold to come back from the customer. The project is not dead, just taking longer than expected since we are not testing them in house. If someone can get me a 1.6L and '99+ turbo'd car, I can get it done sooner. :)

levnubhin 09-10-2009 12:42 PM

I'm no where close to local but I'd be willing to help in any way possible.

I have a '95 with a '99 head, that count for 99+? If so, I'll test it (it'll give me an excuse to put my car on a dyno), but like levnubhin, I'm not local. And after thinking about it, I have a feeling you're wanting one to be local for designing purposes. In any case, the offer is there.

Stephanie Turner 09-11-2009 04:00 PM

Thank you! I will keep that in mind.

disturbedfan121 09-11-2009 04:32 PM

i have a 1.6. i'm swapping a head hopefully on sunday, and have a planned dyno day on the 27th. let me know

disturbedfan121 09-13-2009 06:30 PM

ooooorrrrr not

Faeflora 01-24-2010 12:10 AM

Threadsurrect for updates!

Stephanie Turner 01-28-2010 04:51 PM

We have tried two different intake manifold versions. Results are not what was expected. It could be the manifold, it could be the car. So... we have another on in the works. It is due for tuning and testing this weekend.
Stephanie

disturbedfan121 01-28-2010 04:55 PM

Ill test on my 1.6!

The 1.6L version you made for brad wasn't shabby at all. a 15hp gain with a 10tq peak loss at the slightly lower boost level didn't bother Brad at all. It had 30 more torque at redline.

disturbedfan121 01-28-2010 05:54 PM

id' take that. it put me at where i'd like to be

stranges12712 01-28-2010 05:59 PM

Where do i sign? Lol id love one for my 1.6L.

Stephanie Turner 01-29-2010 04:12 PM

We are going to sell the 1.6L version, like the one tested! I will get it added to the website asap. The one we are having problems with is the NB, when used with the stock ECU. I am sure with a standalone, it would be fine. But the stock ECU is being a pain in my backside!
Stephanie

leatherface24 01-29-2010 04:22 PM

Dayum, you shouldve let me test it on my stock ecu when I had it in. I got that thing to do stuff it shouldnt have been able to do lol

Sweet! :bigtu:...holy shes an expensive one. Group buy anyone?

Stephanie Turner 01-29-2010 05:03 PM

I'll ask Corky! We have been contemplating doing group buys too.

jtothawhat 02-01-2010 10:36 PM

^^^riiiiiiight

stranges12712 02-01-2010 10:41 PM

Lmao theres already manifolds out for the 1.8L...theres alot of us that own 1.6L here and most of us want manifolds, just at a good price.

Are you looking for dyno testing on a turbo NB?

Possibly. We have an MSM we are testing the IM for the NB on. Reasoning is if it does ok at 12 psi and stock ECU, then it should do ok on other NB's with boost.

The last intake manifold we installed on the MSM shows promise, according to Corky. He thinks it is much faster than before. I have yet to do any tuning or put on dyno though. Hopefully I can get to it on Sunday.
Stephanie

leatherface24 02-05-2010 10:32 PM

And what ever happened to my offer Steph?

Stephanie Turner 02-06-2010 02:55 PM

I sent you a PM. :)

My car isn't currently running but I have lots of dyno access and can possibly test manifolds in the future.

leatherface24 02-06-2010 04:48 PM

Ill be testing one of these manis in the comming weeks with before and after dynos!

Father LeadFoot 03-05-2010 06:55 PM

Sorry if this is posted earlier in the thread, but it's too much reading.

What are the runner lengths? I'm considering using this for a potential future SC project! WTF!!! Yes you read that right.

Stephanie Turner 04-02-2010 07:01 PM

We finally have a winner! For stock motors, that is. Very different than any other design. It showed a 7-9 whp gain between all runs, and weights 9 lbs less. :)

Info and pictures:
BEGi - - Front Page News - msm_intakemanifold

We still have a few cars that will need to be tested on. But we are finally on the right track!
Stephanie

Hot_Wheels 04-02-2010 11:03 PM

looks good! any inside pictures? will you be able to flip these for the front wheel drive guys?

disturbedfan121 04-02-2010 11:06 PM

1.6?????

Stephanie Turner 04-05-2010 05:40 PM

We will do one for all year cars. Once the runners are cast, we will test it on the 1.6L too!
Stephanie

TurboTim 04-05-2010 08:57 PM

What was wrong with the old cast manifold? Just wondering. It's good to see some positive results from the new design and your effort.

Stephanie Turner 04-18-2010 04:21 PM

The old cast manifold took too long to machine. In order to leave the pricing where it was, a new version was needed. Welding on CNC parts is a lot faster and cheaper. Plus that was for higher boost applications only. We needed a part for 12 psi applications or less. We are happy with the results on the bent tube version, and can't wait to test it on more applications.
Stephanie

cueball1 05-23-2010 05:01 PM

Need a tester for the 94-97 1.8?!? Huh, huh, do ya!!!

Just finishing a mild build. No crank work - likely stupidly since everything was apart - Wiseco's, m-tuned rods, some mild head work - mainly deshrouding, 3 angle job, port matching, casting clean up - and your S4 system. Motor is ready to go in, just looking for a block of time to make the swap. I could do before and after dynos. Looking to make that ubiquitous 300hp reliably.

leatherface24 12-13-2010 11:10 AM

So whats the dilly? I saw on your homepage that one of the runners was back from the foundry and it looked awesome.

Stephanie Turner 12-15-2010 11:40 PM

The runner arrived with a small hole in the casting. Corky is fixing the core box now, and it should be off to the foundry in a few days.
Stephanie

leatherface24 12-16-2010 09:32 AM

cool thanks for the update. So its looking like next month maybe till they are ready for sale?

Stephanie Turner 12-31-2010 04:32 PM

The pattern has been sent to the foundry again. I am told a sample should be here in about 2 weeks!
Stephanie

leatherface24 02-17-2011 12:53 AM

Months later, any updates?

Stephanie Turner 02-17-2011 12:06 PM

Three foundry samples later, we finally have a casting that poured correctly. They are making more castings for me, so we can do some more testing and start selling them! Pictures to be posted in a few.

That looks fantastic! Ive said it in the past but i really wanna be a guinea pig! I have access to 2 dynos i can use whenever to show before and after results.

ianferrell 02-17-2011 02:20 PM

I'd gladly be a guinea pig too, just throw one in the box when you send my turbine housing back, lol :)

I know this is MiataTurbo.net, but any thing that will work on a high compression NA 1.6?

Stealth97 03-15-2011 07:56 PM

Looks like a pipe sherlock holmes would puff on.

Yes. A turbo.

Braineack 03-16-2011 09:05 AM

Those runners came out nice. I'd like to see the project completed!

How long are those BTW, 9-10"? They appear to be shorter than stock, I like the smooth taper. with the right plenum I can see how you'd see improvements throughout the entire powerband.

TurboTim 03-16-2011 09:18 AM

Yes, very nice indeed. Get on it begi.

leatherface24 03-16-2011 09:40 AM

Taking FOREVER!!!!

Stephanie Turner 03-18-2011 08:32 PM

I KNOW!! We are waiting on the foundry to ship us castings at this point. The foundry had our approval for 15 more castings the same day the last sample was sent to us. They have more in the schedule to ship later as well. Just waiting on them. I have a car here already, waiting, for back to back dyno testing.
