I know some of these stuff I've done to the car is out of order, but I'll keep adding to this thread for completeness.

Here is my ACT light flywheel install. I also have a ACT HD clutch with ACT street disc.

Here is my custom aluminum center console. I made the templates out of cardboard, transferred them to aluminum sheet, cut them out then bent them into shape.

While the center console looks cool as ----, I am betting it will get hot as hell in the summer. Might want to watch out for that.

It does, but I don't ever really touch it while driving the car. I'd like to get it powdercoated because it does shine and reflect light when the sun hits it.

Here is my Boss Frog Clearview rollbar install.

Here is my Toyota coil on plug install.

I used damaged coils to make a plug and play harness for the COPs. I made my own mounting bracket for the coils and bolted them on. the setup plug into the factory engine harness. I also made rubber seals to seal the bracket once its bolted onto the engine.

I also made a smaller intake support brace to replace the factory one. It makes oil changes easier.

I bought new front hubs and repacked them with high temp grease. I practiced it by disassembling the old one first.

Squaretop intall. I smoothed the runners and neck. I also painted the top half black and made blocking plates to eliminate the EGR. I also took a pic to compare them.

More comments from my awesome previous experiences:
  • Make sure you keep the balls seperate when you repack the hubs, sometimes the inside and outside races are different sizes.
  • That Mobile1 grease and Redline are garbage compared to the Amsoil, it always smells burnt when I disassemble after a few days and they hubs did not last as long as the AMSoil "Race Grease".
  • Timken bearings are nice and all, but they don't last any longer than the Enkidu $28 bearings I'm running.
  • Your wire wrap on the coils is going to melt.

99mx5 02-04-2012 08:23 PM

Thanks for the feedback.
I'll definitely repack the front hubs again, I'll follow your advice on the grease. The bearing balls were the same size but the retainers were different.
I went with Timken because they use the OEM NTK bearings like the factory. The seals were a little different, but the rest was the same.

The wire wrap on the coil harness has been on for over 4 years and is still going strong.
