I'll definitely repack the front hubs again, I'll follow your advice on the grease. The bearing balls were the same size but the retainers were different.
I went with Timken because they use the OEM NTK bearings like the factory. The seals were a little different, but the rest was the same.

The wire wrap on the coil harness has been on for over 4 years and is still going strong.

If you have big brakes, you may be able to get away with the M1 grease, I would probably run a few days on them.

Weird, I melted that wire wrap quick, I suppose there are different types of plastic used for those.

Did you end up ordering the next larger size sleeves for your lines?

On second thought, disregard anything I typed because someone as slow as me has no business recommending anything or critiquing anyone.

I called them and asked them as Huslertron and Shoeiend did, they recommended same size to slip over straight fittings and one size up for applications with bent fittings.

XOXO to Trey and Lars

Werd, thanks for the verification.

I bought #6 and # 10 wrap for #6 and #10 hose. It takes a little convincing, but the fit looks great and the tighter the better. It was not frustrating or anything I I had 12* and 180* fittings to deal with.

Get some hose clamp-strap thingies too because the ones at Lowe's don't fit as snug as the ones Bat Inc sells.

I also recommend sending them a Google Docs spreadsheet for orders rather than calling it out over the phone.

There's an example I made, which I made editable by anyone with a link. I locked it down here in case anyone gets crafty, but you can use the format if you want.

My ARTech oil and coolant lines arrived today. The lines will be mounted with a bracket and bulkhead fittings.

I started taking the car apart to install the kit. I decided to snap some pics of the parts. I also cleaned and coated the manifold. I'll bake it tonight to cure it.

hustler 02-10-2012 03:11 PM

Why coat stainless? I recommend you get a new manifold/head gasket after you deck the manifold, after it warps from the first track outing.

This car is going to be awesomely fast.

Seefo 02-10-2012 03:19 PM

In, never noticed this thread Ari.

Great stuff, we shall skype again soon ;)

99mx5 02-10-2012 03:59 PM

Thanks, I hope it will be fast.

The manifold is mild steel. Only through the awesomeness of ARTech does it look that good when delivered.

Hey Joe,
Yeah definitely.

hustler 02-10-2012 04:20 PM

lol @ mild steel looking baller. I wish you could get gold coating so I could floss at cars & coffee.

curly 02-10-2012 04:47 PM

I'll look for a gold/titanium VHT paint when I do mine.

99mx5 02-10-2012 10:12 PM

I got the aluminum color. Some colors fade with use. I'm baking it now to cure it.
I also just received my FIC 650c and fire sleeves from BATinc. I'll post pics shortly.

Here is the current state of the install. The turbo is mounted and plumbed for oil and coolant. The oil and coolant lines are SS braided teflon with BAT Inc fire sleeves and sealed with silicone tape at the ends. I made a bracket to hold the bulkhead fittings. I also made a support bracket to support the oil pressure sender and I made a heat shield for the AC compressor. I upload pics but need to get them off the camera.

Next steps are to install the exhaust, fuel injectors, intercooler, boost gauge and boost controller.

Excuse the crappy pics, I just got this camera and am still getting used to it.

I used a ratchet, extension and socket to hold the tap straight while tapping the oil pan. When I drilled the hole, I used grease on the drill bit to catch the aluminum shavings. I cleaned and re-greased the bit often.

I tapped the hole and put JB Weld on the threads of the fitting before screwing it in.

I also made a support bracket for the oil pressure sender. When the engine rocks from hitting the rev-limiter, it will keep it from breaking the fitting on the block.

I also made a bracket for the oil and coolant line bulkhead fittings.

I covered all the lines with the BAT Inc fire sleeves.

I also made a heat shield for the AC compressor.

I mounted the intercooler. It also fits behind the stock bumper without cutting. I will duct it when its completed.

Where is my back picture of the turbo with the downpipe attached? You promised me it the other night.

99mx5 02-16-2012 12:56 PM

I thought I could install the DP from the bottom. I have to pull the manifold off again to install it from the top. So I decided to work on the intercooler mount before I install it. Sorry Lars.
