So I have a plan to get the car to the drag strip as soon as possible. But first, there are a few pressing problems as well as a few cosmetic issues I need to fix first. Tackling the bad power window motor while I wait for a few fittings to arrive. Also working on minor weight reduction items. Not doing anything too drastic. Of coarse, still need to iron out some tuning issues, but it shouldn’t be too long.

I was hoping the driver side airbag removal was low hanging fruit. Am I to assume if I drill the rivets I can remove the airbag and bolt it back together.

Just in case you can't find one on here: the part number for the no-cooler stud is B630-10-319, and you can find them for $10 shipped (link here) on eBay used or $7 from Mazda Motorsports.

Thanks to afm, I ordered the 1.6 nipple from my local Mazda dealer, removed the factory oil cooler/warmer and re-plumbed the oil sending unit. I know some you guys have forced an npt fitting into the factory bspt oil line for the VVT, but a bspt to npt adapter is available from Summit Racing. Hoping that fixes my oil leak.

Probably shed about 60-75 lbs of weight so far. Trying to resist the temptation to pull the dash and start cutting ****, it’s so tempting.

As you can see I pulled the dash after all. There were some wiring issues that bothered me. Mainly wanted to make the under hood wiring neater and to get the wiring away from the front of the motor, I come up with a clever way to make that happen. More on that later.

I also decided to get rid of the under the dash radio, a/c and heater components. I know I will kind of miss the heater, but it’s for the best. I am shocked how heavy the Bose system is.

I've got the duct for the underhood ac delete that lets you keep the heater. I would have given it to you for free. Costs like $25 from Mazda and you don't destroy the functionality of the car, ya psycho.

Lol.

Oh god. This is reminding me of my vw bus that had no heater. That was awful when i got caught in a rainstorm on a few occasions.

I just saw this thread. I'm glad that our resident carb enthusiast has found the light of megasquirt and forced induction!

And that valve cover looks great. Reasoning for the choice of location on those vents? Just curious because I have a spare valve cover sitting here that I want to do the same thing with, and I've been researching venting locations for my track car.

One of them is in the stock pcv location. Both go into the baffled areas of the valve cover. The locations were chosen by the original owner, but the female npt bungs were damaged.

I decided to cut out the npt fittings and weld in male 10AN fittings. Wasn’t sure if I should have gone that big, but the bigger lines seem to prevent much oil from going into the catch can.

I would like to add that I am likely to install a vacuum pump at a later date, which swayed me towards the bigger lines.

I feel like I missed the mark on the valve cover color. if I colored it red or black, I would not feel the need to color the intake and VVT valve. Now I think the somewhat similar colors clash. I will have to think on it. Either powder the intake black or the same color as the valve cover.

Pretty much wrapped up all the wiring under the dash. Also figured out my fan problems for the most part. I won’t know if MS will run the fans for sure until I get the car running solidly at operating temp. Just to be sure, I installed an on/off switch with the added bonus of being able to cool the car with engine off between rounds at the drag strip.
