Smoke didn't stop you last year I'll watch your oil if you watch my control arm bolts. For real though, I hope you guys can swing it, we'll be pretty bummed if it's just us on the trip down.

So my smoking symptoms are smoke only* after long engine braking, and then stomping the gas. If I shift into neutral or don't engine brake it doesn't seem to smoke.

Could this be stuck oil control rings? Trying to decide if I should do some acetone+atf cleaning to try and unstick them.

*As far as I can tell in the mirror.

New (old) motor a month ago. It might just be tired rings, but i figured trying to unstick them might be worth it.

That's what I'm doing. (Over a long time). Just curious about people experiences with smokey motors and sticking rings.

I had the same symptoms with a bone stock 1.6 too, it was higher mileage as well. You might ask Craig if he was experiencing the same symptoms, although I don't remember it happening on the dyno. He did ask me to up the boost until it stops making power or stops rotating. Luckily it stopped making power first.

He said he didn't remember it happening. But Martin said he thought he remembered it doing it on the dyno, so I'm not sure.

I was going to find out how it did on track but the diff blew before I could get anything in.

I'd really like to make the next BMW club event, but I'm pretty swamped at work right now.
