are those stud holes stripped out?lol

They're not threaded to begin with. I made my own studs out of some 5/16 threaded rod with a tack welded nut on the bottom.

aidandj 04-04-2016 07:00 PM

So a bolt....?

the_enginear 04-04-2016 07:05 PM

Well yeah. It's just that there isn't enough space to get a bolt in either turbo or mani side so that's the only way to do it.

Not sure if they make it anymore, but there's a product by POR called fire seal 2000. Sealed two cracked Honda manifolds and each held up for 3 years after. Small cracks. Good for 2000 degrees F

Luke, you ever hire EE's?

Not very often, not many ME's either. Since our business is making and selling metals, most of our engineers are Materials Engineers or Metallurgical Engineers.

Did you just use standard all thread rod from home Depot?
The fastener place around hear had grade 8 all thread rod. I would upgrade to that atleaet.
2 feet was like 6 dollars.
I would guess standard all thread would break quick.
It might be a race between the manifold and the welded bolts thou.
U might keep a close eye on ebay and classifieds for better manifold.

the_enginear 04-05-2016 09:05 AM

I can get wholesale from grainger if I just wait for someone to place an order and sneak something in. The stuff I used was grade 8 from grainger.

That's cool, I'll show her. I'm not sure how far she's planning to go with it

What kind of cage did you go with?
I like the graphics what did she use for black? Think it will hold up? You could clear coat it.

hi_im_sean 04-06-2016 12:32 AM

I don't have a cage yet. Going to be making one but it's probably the last thing that will happen. It's sharpie and I'll probably clear coat it but it's not a worry right now

the_enginear 04-07-2016 08:53 AM

At this point I am starting with wish I had gotten some sort of kit. Not because of the poor quality but because of missing parts. Having to make 4 trips to the hardware store for 5$ parts is pretty irritating. They didn't give me a drain flange so I welded one up from flat stock and pipe. Used a piece of the oem exhaust header gasket as a gasket. Also made the wg bracket yesterday which took way longer than it should have.
