Why do you have it injecting so early? I mean 3psi is nothing especially since you have an fmic. Just curious.
Also that location for the iat is exactly where I had mine, and it did heat soak at times. when the fan starts blowing hot air from the rad onto it, it does get a big hot.I woulda tapped into the fmic coldside if I had to do it over. You may want to put a little heat shielding tape/wrap/etc on it to prevent compromised hot restarts or stop/go traffic lean-ness. Though you could kinda remedy that in in the tune. (and you're having the stock ecu control idle so I dunno how that affects the issue)

Good to know, I'll cover it with the DEI heat shielding and some wrap. It's a progressive injection so it really only sprays maybe 30-50cc to start and then ramps up to full 275cc by 8-9 PSI. I'll upload my spray results when I have a minute.

Do you do everything perfectly, or just not show us the bad pictures and first-attempt failures?

Also, how did you learn to build your motor? I would me a lot more inclined to do it if I thought I could do it myself, but I wouldn't even know where to start.

18psi 01-19-2012 01:53 PM

Its not rocket science.
I'm seroius.

If you do a good bit of research, are handy around the garage, and have access to proper tools/machinery you're already halfway there. The rest is following specs TO THE TEE and being OCD about everything. Double/triple/quadruple checking everything.

Just my .02

Looks like OP definitely is a perfectionist by the pics.

Exactly as 18PSI said. I'm very mechanically inclined to begin with but you just need to follow procedures.

Buy parts, drop them off at machine shop, lube everything, install rings with proper offset, install wrist pins and rods, use a ring compressor and install pistons, flip it over and install crank bearings, thrust washer and main caps, install rod bearings and main caps, follow torque procedures for all of it.. blah blah blah..

If you don't know what to do GOOGLE it from your smart phone while you're in the middle of it.

skidude 01-19-2012 02:34 PM

I'm handy in the garage, the problem is the tools. All I've got is hand tools and a badly out-of-calibration torque wrench.

Borrow/rent tools from places like Autozone

Picked up some meats to try out for the rear. I give it another 13 miles or so until my transmission explodes... again..

Not the worst tire in the world. Going from a 205 to a 225 and a better tire should do me pretty well though.

KDW's?

deadphishy 01-22-2012 02:15 AM

Of everything in this thread i am most surprised that you are drinking Woodchuck. What is this high school? :loser:

Don't listen to a word this guys says, he takes his car to a local shop and tries to take credit for their work all the time.

Just kidding,

Someone asked earier if you leave the first try F-Ups off the camera roll. As witness to a lot of things done by this man i will say, first try F-Ups are very rare. He doesn't just reach for the biggest hammer.

18psi 01-22-2012 01:22 PM

No sawzall either? Geez, he must be a genius:giggle:

Faeflora 01-22-2012 02:27 PM

Are you injecting water? Meth? Or a mixture?

Regardless, I recommend putting your AIT sensor AFTER your nozzle, particularly if you are running meth.

The juice will cool the air and if your AIT sensor is inline, your AIT trims will kick in. This is good. Otherwise, your AIT trims may be inaccurate.

I have 2 out of 6 nozzles pre AIT sensor partially for this and partially for charge cooling. 4 of those 6 nozzles are direct port. I see AITs rise only 5* under 30psi pull on a 300hp rated IC.

18psi 01-22-2012 02:33 PM

/\ is your iat open element?
and isn't it going to get fubard with constant water/alcohol being sprayed onto it?

Just finished up with some Dyno tuning. On a Mustang Dyno @18-19 PSI the car produced 310hp and 290tq without methanol. I'm happy with those numbers but I believe the turbo had run out of flow.

I'll tune for meth next week and hopefully pick up another 20-25whp.

Mustang Dyno @18-19 PSI the car produced 310hp and 290tq without methanol
AFR 11.5-11.8
EGT peaked at 1500F
Boost Peak 19 tapering down to 17 PSI
Flat foot shifting setup properly
Launch control setup and enabled

Car's drivability is completely different. Power hits hard but is smooth power and holds it for much longer. I'm extremely happy with the tune off of meth and cant wait to tune with it. Given the fact that this dyno is notoriously low and my drive train percentage loss estimated on the minimal end, we're looking at 360 at the crank. Limited at this time by the turbo.

Very nice. Assuming you did all your own tuning?

lsc224 01-23-2012 10:11 AM

Good numbers! Gratz!

18psi 01-23-2012 10:38 AM

Definitely very good numbers considering pump gas and mustang dyno. Looks like you got a big ol wave of torque hitting real hard fairly soon.

Can you post a better pic of the dyno plot? Can't tell jack squat from the one up right now.

Also what turbo are you running again? Too lazy to scroll through the multiple pages.

GT2860RS I'll get a closer shot of the Dyno. The tuner is private at the time so I've promised not to share the details.

18psi 01-23-2012 11:06 AM

Very nice for a 2860. No wonder it makes so much torque so soon.
Those poor kdw's are going to get raped.
*edit: so is your transmission lol

573 01-23-2012 12:05 PM

Nice numbers. Did you use the dyno at Speed Industry? If so, that thing is notorious for being a heart breaker, so all the more credit to you.
