Any ideas on how to get this 34mm BOV to work with the 3/4” recirculation hose?

UPDATE: Found solution. I didn't realize that the discharge port was removable on the Kompact series BOV/Recirculation valves. Here is the part I needed and ordered:

I plan on using the squaretop but it’s not back from the chemical strippers.

if it’s not done in time I may tune on the VICS and just do some touch up stuff later.

Drove the car Saturday... Had a good time. Ran well enough.

Got in the car to drive it to work Sunday, no fuel pump... I just replaced the fuel pump relay back in September and I could hear it clicking so it sounded good to me.

I remember my wires being pretty crispy there so I cut off the burnt ends and spliced them onto female insulated spade terminals. Hooked it all up, still nothing.

Luckily I had a 60a radioshack relay sitting around. Plugged that up and it works perfectly. Fuel pump turns on, car drove me to work safely and without issue. I really need to get the fuel pump wiring upgrade done to prevent this in the future...

Wow, this is taking forever.

Anyhow, I have been driving the car on the old engine for now, working out bugs in idle, etc.

Since I have a new built motor ready to drop in for the most part, I decided to pull off the reins and remove the boost cut (or rather, move it to 220kpa). I also pulled four degrees of timing above 200kpa to hopefully minimize the risk of damage if it over boosted too badly.

I then loaded my full boost target map so I could play around with boost control. I am pretty happy for the most part, but I am puzzled a bit. My spool seems slow compared to last time I did a run. I am also showing much less HP than previous. I wonder if I have some bent rods messing up my compression?

Here is my latest pull:

According to my "show me your spool" thread data from a couple years back, I hit 14psi at 3,450 or so RPM.

Also, it seemed like it was bucking and surging with the worst of it about 5k rpm. This is probably the first full 5th gear pull I have done in years.

Any thoughts?SaveSave

Any idea what could be causing this strange behavior in virtualDyno?

You drove off a cliff?

Post the log file from which said chart was created.

I think this tune is the best representation of the file from that night. I did some adjustments to my boost duty bias table and VE tables based on that pull.

Oddly enough, there wasn't. If you look at the log from May 20th, you can see that if I check the RPMdot average over 3500-4300 rpm it's like 98.3. RPMdot for 4400-5500 rpm is 95.9.

No weird spikes in RPM, no weird spikes in VSS... Strange.

I am also way down on power. Not sure, but maybe spark breakup?

I will try and do another pull sometime soon, but trying to do so without endangering anyone or getting a ticket can be tricky.

Re-gapped plugs. Found a bunch of oil in the #3 plug hole. Probably from me spazzing while filling oil one time.

Seems to be running well now. I’ll try another pull soon. But that’s not the news.

I just couldn’t resist.

Interesting development... I may be helping to buy a load bearing dyno...

If it happens, data for days. My ported Vics manifold vs flat top. Old motor vs built motor. Injector timing, whatever. Sky is the limit. I basically won’t be paying for dyno time.

Need to raise another couple grand, but if we can make it happen this will be really cool.

It's going to happen!

Put down a $2k deposit on a Dynocom DC5000 load cell dyno. It's only three years old and has a total of 80 runs in it. We will be doing probably 80 in the next month!

As this is almost a complete re-do of my turbo setup, I will be creating a new build thread once it goes into the shop.

What's staying:
MS3pro
Precision 4828 Turbo
BEGI manifold
FM cast iron elbow with custom v-band
3" Exhaust with Magnaflow
ID1000 injectors

What's being changed:
Custom charge piping replaced with FM flexible charge pipes
Turbosmart V-port compact BOV replaced with Kompact Dual Port with Recirculating option
Turbosmart dual port wastegate actuator
Upgraded DW300 fuel pump with upgraded wiring and relays.
FAB9tuning VVT compatible Coil on Plug replaced with D585 coils.
Fab9tuning Stage 1 Intercooler replaced with Precision 350 core.
Upgraded wiring as needed.
VCTS intake swapped with ported VICS, Flattop, and Skunk2 intake.(dyno tests on all three for comparison)
Skunk2 throttle body replaces stock throttle body.
Stock VVT head replaced by ported VVT head with +1mm valves. Inconnel exhaust valves.
Stock bottom end replaced by built forged bottom end with upgraded oiling. (and 10.5:1 compression ratio)
Various plumbing things like Oil and Coolant sources for turbo. (using 94 block vs stock 01 block)
Changing from returnless to Return style fuel system with Fuelab FPR.
FM Happy meal stage 1 to FM2

What's being added:
Electronic 3" exhaust cut-out, piped to look like dual exhaust.
Flex fuel.
Oil cooler.
lots of sensors.
Possibly traction control.

This is the last info post by me in this thread. Next thread will have this info plus pictures.

Let me know what things you would like to see dyno tested.

Dyno is installed and while we haven't quite got the eddy brake calibration thing worked out to our satisfaction, it is working fine in inertial only mode. Here are our last baseline numbers before we do the engine install and raise the boost. We did add a few more KPA of boost above 5000 rpm and four degrees timing up top just to see how it reacted. I am pretty hopeful for the future.

Baseline before engine installation.

Since it’s a new dyno and calibrations aren’t working quite right yet, we sent a couple shop cars to a local Dynojet to get some comparison numbers. Turns out this dyno in its current form is about 10.1% low compared to a dyno-jet.
that means that my HP numbers went from about 240 to 280 or so. Normally I wouldn’t be stressing the block this hard, but we are so close to a motor swap and I’m not really driving it far, so what the hell.

Long story. I still plan on moving but the specific position I was about to be hired for got temporarily put on hold.

Earlier in the thread I had a problem with the car randomly dying and not starting. Well, the other night it happened while I had my laptop. It was a nice night out so I stuck around in a random parking lot and pretty much 100% verified it was the fuel pump. Had to get it towed home. Previously I had suspected it was either the Cam sensor or the fuel pump. I replaced the cam sensor with the "fix" from Ballenger motorsports. It's a nice package and I am glad I did it, but it turns out it wasn't the problem after all. Motor install STILL hasn't happened. Shop that's doing the work is too full with other customers at the moment and everyone is scrambling for the end of the race season (around here).

Quick employment update. In November and after not getting a call from the Georgia employer and after a meeting with my boss that left me with a bad taste in my mouth, I decided to start looking places other than Georgia to move to. My sister lives in Colorado, and so I looked there. Lo and behold, there was an opening in Fort Collins doing what I want to do. I applied, had a good first phone interview, and scheduled my in-person interview.

A day or so after I booked my flight to Colorado I got a phone call from Georgia asking if I was still interested. I told them to put an offer together.

Interview with Colorado goes very well. They basically offer me a job on the spot. I have them send me an official offer. Meanwhile my Fiancé flies up to Chicago and we spend a week going over the two options. Ultimately we decide that Georgia is the better option for our future, but we still haven't gotten an offer from them.

Long story short, I literally got an offer from Georgia hours before my deadline with Colorado. It was a painful choice to make. Both options were so good and had so many positives, but Georgia won out in the end.

My first day will be January 14th, and I will be moving initially to Winder Georgia, and hopefully moving closer to the city (for shorter commute) when we can.

What a rollercoaster...

BTW - Miata will be coming hopefully in late March or April. I am leaving it up north and giving my fabricator a couple months extra to finish it. Saves me money having to store it and I have too much going on until then anyhow.

Congrats. I like GA having lived all over Florida and in New England. There's a good balance of seasons here with a broad span of tolerable temps to be outside. Winder to downtown will be long commute with potential to even worse. Otoh you can't get much closer to Road Atlanta- nice if you plan to track more than work.
