Junkyard jackpot today.

Saw the local LKQ had a new Miata, figured I'd check. It was pretty stripped down, so I left after grabbing a few things. As I left, I saw a smaller yard and wanted to check it but had to drive a bit before a u-turn. As I turned, I saw another little yard, and decided it couldn't hurt.

Walked in, the guy asked what I was looking for. Told him Miata and Capri, and he asked if I was clever or just lucky, because he had both. He asked what year Miata, told him I didn't care, but the Capri had to be 91-94, and lo and behold, he had a 92.

Found it

Please have a valve cover.

Jackpot

10 minutes and $17.44 later, I've got a Capri cover.

It will be pretty nice one day.

So I bought myself some slightly early birthday presents. One came today.

Look, some pretty old HotWheels. But what else is in there?

Yep. Bought some fancy fancy. I remember seeing KG TSIs many years ago and thinking they were unattainable, and something I'd never have. But now I do. Not sure how they'll look on Lobo, but we'll find out soon enough.

I also bought a new to me laptop today. This one will have a specific use for Lobo. Can anyone guess what's happening tonight?

Also installed the KG TSIs. Harder than expected. Had to stretch the bumper holes and somewhat force them. But, I do like them a lot.

Before.

Comparison.

Installed.(Mind the terrible quick pictures)

Thank you! I'm trying to build something I'll enjoy for a long time. If other people enjoy it, that's a bonus.

Lobo's got a new brain.

Installed the ECU with some help from a couple of knowledgeable local owners. Started first try but has a misfire. Pretty sure it's the aftermarket injector harnesses, but upgraded versions are already on the way.

Here's some pics.

Roll back the carpet of the pass floorboard and see this metal cover with several 10mm bolts/nuts. Undo them and remove cover.

ECU ready to remove. Yours may be bolted down, mine wasn't. Saved a minute.

Side by side

Temporary cable routing. Pop the cover on while driving, off while tuning. May stay there.

Messy hookup

GT500 injectors and adapters

BMW TPS wired and installed

Car runs a lot better.

So the adapter harnesses for the GT500 injectors had an issue with shorting out, and I think that's partially what happened. I got the replacement updated harnesses and added rail spacers, and as soon as I installed them, the car was running really lean at idle, which tells me that there was definitely a fuel problem. But the misfire was still there.

I think I found my misfire.

3/4 of the bottom pieces fell off and had to be removed from the engine with needlenose. Cyl 3's wire didn't want to come off of the coil, and the connector snapped and was really corroded. With the new wires, and the new injector harnesses and spacers, the car idles a lot better, and no longer has a misfire. It's got a ticking, but I have a sneaking suspicion it's the injectors just being loud 630cc injectors.

Just skimmed through your 2 pages. So much progress! Looking very proper now.

Was the FM1 happy meal kit installed? How do you like it so far?

I think we have the same flywheel, but I have the FM2. Engage point is almost to the floor on mine, flywheel spins up & down very quickly. Gotta be swift on the shifts

Thank you! I think next week is 6 months since I bought the car bone stock. It's been crazy.

Not installed yet. Waiting for the turbo kit to get here, then I'll just pull motor and do it all at the same time.

My biggest concern was just installing the MS3 and the injectors to work the kinks out and get a grasp on tuning before I add another component.

They injectors are definitely tickier than stock. Think of it as a reminder that there is awesome under the hood

I would suggest doing the clutch before you put on the turbo. That way you can properly break it in, and not be tempted to go into boost.

Is there a reason you wanted to pull the motor to do the clutch? Nothing on my setup needs the motor out to install. The only thing close is drilling the oil pan. Which if you want to do that early while you have the engine out, shoot me an email and I can get you the fitting for the pan and a cap for it. So you can do it then and just have it ready for when you install the turbo later.

Yeah, that's what I figured. The car idles pretty good, Open-Loop for now.

Thanks again for taking care of me.

Now I just need to read a lot and play with it. Gonna drive it around with VEAL some tonight since the last time it was driven, it was short on fuel and spark apparently.

Kinda planned on pulling it and cleaning the bay down. But I might just go ahead and take your advice. I've done a Miata clutch on pavement before, just need to find a place to do it. Good point about the proper break in.

I might take you up on that.

Ultimately, I may not install the kit right when I get it. I'd like to have a much better grasp on tuning before I do. I've played with my idle a bit, but not very "fine", just choosing a good bit of idle cells and adding/removing fuel for better AFR at idle.

I went to town with simple green & terry cloth towels on my engine bay before dropping in my built motor. I do not ragret it...

Motor was spiffy clean, engine bay was clean & smelled nice. Easy to identify leaks. Everything just needed a quick wipe down and looks brand new. May of been up to Jeffbucc standards

Today was fun.

Ughhhhh what's going on guys?

I really don't like it up here.

Uhhhh, this feels pretty not good. I'm scared.

What are you going to do with that!?!

This doesn't feel right guys.

That's not supposed to be out of me!

Don't you touch that!

Soo, you're making me better? It feels weird. But I like it.

(Wrench was moved before final install. Do not leave wrench in position shown.)

I kinda like this

The clutch that was in it was nearly perfect.

I wish I had friends with a lift to help me do my clutch. I've been putting it off because driveway and Pacific Northwest.
