Well the snow slowed me down for a while, but I got back to working on stuff again. Allow me to share some of my aluminum porn.

The intake heat shield thing.

Working on a gasket to fill the void around the intake tube. I'll finish later this week.

Starting this thing now. 1/4" plywood. Going to use 2Ayer of cloth, top and bottom. Motivation is dwindling @ 17°F.

Motor is so pretty. I need to make my engine bay look 1/2 that good!

Skimmed through your thread today! Your build is awesome! I need to start my build thread on here sometime soon, just don't have the time.

Btw, let me know about that oil pan tonight so I know to get it boxed up or not!

Thanks for the compliment. It has been a journey. I'm on the fence with the pan. I have a ton of leftover partz, so I was just going buy it, weld a -10 bung on, then flip it to the MT community. Not sure what the market is like though. I think most people just drill n tap.

You make serious progress though. I seem to move at a snail pace.

This is my solution to sealing the space between the intake and the heat shield. A piece of 1/8" urethane. I don't think it will melt. Probably not. Maybe.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1455930466

And one last engine pic.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1455930466

I tried to drive the damn thing for the first time on 14 months. Brake master cylinder pooped all over the floor. I'm getting used to this sort of thing.

DNMakinson 02-20-2016 05:57 PM

Urethane is a thermoset material. It will not melt.

Are you thinking of silicone? I melted the holes for the rivets in this urethane, and have messed around withe friction welding urethane at work. Either way, I think it's probably fine.

DNMakinson 02-20-2016 06:20 PM

Traditional Urethanes, or actually Polyurethanes are themosets. TPU's are blends of Urethanes in a matrix of thermoplastics that have properties of both. Not sure what you have. Many TPU's are automotive grade materials. There may be other classes, but I'm not aware.

And you you are certainly correct that time will tell.

Glad you are getting so close.

Finished my Splitter quick release rear mounts. I definitely stole this idea from someone, but I can't remember who.
