I can't wait to get in the mix with my turbo Eliminator! Will certainly meet you on track at some point - I'm usually Nasa over Scca, but that may change next year :)
Just look for the fat redhead trying to squeeze into an Eliminator, lol

jatow 11-20-2015 08:36 PM

Subscribed. 93hp at the wheels is serious fun, 250hp will be insane fun.

GeneSplicer 11-20-2015 10:47 PM

There he is - and I'll even let you drive it when it's compete. You know, i got beer, just come over and drink a couple while I cut :)

So, in anticipation of welding the cage to the frame, I went out (like eBay 'out') and bought a Lincoln mig that should do the job. I've got a precision tig 175 but using it would be painstakingly slow - would make some nice n purty welds though.

Here's trimming around the ABS pump

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1448373164

This car took a pretty good lick to the passenger side - internal structure damage in the rear quarter. It shouldn't affect what I'm doing with it though.

BenR 11-24-2015 09:16 AM

Why aren't you using plasma cutter? With the price of the Chinese ones on ebay you'll spend that much in sawzall blades.

GeneSplicer 11-24-2015 10:49 AM

I've got a brand new cutter in the shop - but I was advised not to use it because it makes the cleanup edges (that get welded) much harder to work with b/c of tempering from the plasma cutter.

BenR 11-24-2015 09:19 PM

Makes sense.

I may actually be headed down to Birmingham in a few weeks on business. Definitely will visit Salvagewon if they can find the time :-)

GeneSplicer 11-26-2015 03:53 PM

They're actually based in the Auburn area - but if jatow is around (above), maybe he can drive the Smurfinator over to my shop so you can see one that's compete, and mine in progress?

I've got one in Bham, but it may be going back for a spa treatment in Auburn next week (More mods). PM me and I'll let you know. JATow's is always in Bham though.

stefanst 11-26-2015 05:42 PM

That's awesome! Thanks for the offers. I'll contact you guys once my schedule solidifies.

I've forgotten to refill my Adderral script.... so nothing to post. Oh, I did pick up my bored/decked block and refreshed head... Will see if I can get it together - next year :)

We've found a blade used for fire rescue that has enabled us to cut the car with a single blade (well two because you need an 8" in a couple spots). We'll make them available on the site when it's up.

stefanst 12-09-2015 10:09 AM

I love these:

GeneSplicer 12-09-2015 02:58 PM

Next time Alan comes this way, he needs to bring a couple - I'm out.

shuiend 12-09-2015 03:18 PM

One of these days I will send you out your clutch. It just needs to be put in a box and shipping label put on.

bawward 01-06-2016 10:37 PM

Looking at the exact same lincoln powering 210mp. Sweet little machine - let us know how it works!

Also, would love to see more detail picks around the front control arm area. I know salvagewon makes their own upper control arms, correct? I think they maintain the frame rails and weld up new brackets... irk, interested in seeing how you work it.

Also, any detailed intro about how the a pillar of the cage is secured to the car? Seems like its kinda floating out there, all shear?

Keep bringing the nasty!

They retain the oem arms - everything designed around keeping the drivetrain oem (if you want).

I got some more goodies come in yesterday!
TSE's new bbk - the pictured ring are my 2yr old spares.

And so my small workshop has been crammed with these big ass freezers i work on that's chewing up my workspace and hindering my ability to work on the cars. So I'm expanding parking area for my trailers and to also be able to put a 20 or 40' storage container close to the back of the shop so i can get the crap out of my shop. It's a mess now, so as soon as I get my septic in, I'll bring in a box start getting my shop to what out used to be - nice and roomy to work on cars!

Thanks for that response. You're totally right, stock drivetrain if you want.

I meant to say, don't you remove/reinforce the front strut towers and mounting plate?

Also, due to dropping all the weight on the car, what manufacturer for shocks/struts are you going with, and what spring rates? I saw Koni earlier...

Reinforce with plates you do! And the forward bar from the cage is welded to it as well.
I'm running a 450/250 GC/Koni setup. I'll re-verify that though - might be 500/300.

GeneSplicer 01-19-2016 07:14 PM

I've got 500/300... went with the little extra in the front because turbo stuffs. Should be great on track!

Awesome, thanks for double checking. Any plans for roll bars and the such?

Enjoying this build. I am in the middle of selling my Miata interior parts, piece by piece. The sawzall goodness will start this summer.

considering something like this for my build. Just something a little different from the typical "eliminator" look.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1462062558

So, why will you need front downforce? I dont see too many Miata running around with anything serious...

GeneSplicer 05-01-2016 08:28 AM

That's where i got my "idea" from - I've been saving the same caterham pic for over a year now - trying to find a cheap top mount wing has proven difficult, so gonna do it myself.
Reason I want more DF is:
1) attempt to balance the wing that's going on the back
2) reduce understeer
3) 250/300 rwhp and I want to rape c7/gt3 cups in the corners
4) it'll look stupid/cool??

The most notable reason for going with a front wing is... a splitter ain't gonna work with this contraption.

Time to put the Lagunitas down... just freaking glad I didn't wire it this way. Do yourself a favor and pay for the pre-wired BBK from TSE and save yourself another 2 beers trying to figure out why the dam caliper won't fit to the bracket! Btw - I bolted these rings on a long time ago - never assume you were sober back then!! The lack of safety wire clued me in - I was like "I can't believe Andrew sent me this kit without wiring the ring bolts"... then realized I bought them seperate thinking I'd save a couple quarters... go figure. At least I didn't make a total ass of myself with a post asking wtf is wrong with this kit - however, it likely would've saved me 30min head scratching- beer drinking time :P
