So it starts - likely will never finish - like my track car.

Starts with the '94 POS i bought for $450 - but it has torsen :)

All because of this.

So it fIrst started with getting the cage from Salvagewon.

And then ordering a bunch of shit for it - oops, can't find pics.
I'll be back with more pics

Never heard of it. Looks dangerous. Subbed!

Edit: Website says you can build it in a weekend, so let's see vids of this thing driving by Tuesday :)

The "ghettocet" style car is very tempting to me.

I'm glad you're building one!

After running with the Salvagewon crew at MATG - I was sold - knew i had to build one.

So thus far I've got:
95 block with 99 intake and head
FM manifold and DP with T25 (specs?) and IC with greddy bov.
FM clutch kit
6spd
GC/Koni with 500f/300r
Racepak iq3 dash
Vishnu fr with RC 750cc injectors
Funky cool projector fogs with hid lamps
NRG wheel with qd

Still need bbk, fp and 94/95 mspnp, reroute

Just finished using up my wire wheel on the cage - love the imbedded flying darts

The plan is to go with a rattle approach for easy repair with the metallic red like the wheel that i painted - had to - it was a god-aweful gay purple neo chrome. Haven't decided to paint just the tub and leave the cage in wire- brushed clear.

And so the 95 motor i had that was 'supposedly' good was anything but. #1 #3 rod bearings fubar - same with the crank. Freakin idiots. Anyway - depending on what the 99 motor looks like, i might be using it. It has a cracked #4 ring - but won't know until it's apart.

patsmx5 10-18-2015 07:39 PM

If the 99 motor isn't any better, a machine shop can turn that crank and order you a set of bearings for it, likely less than 200 for machine work and new bearings. It's not junk, that's fixable.

pdexta 10-18-2015 07:46 PM

Can't wait to see the progress on this, looks like a hell of a start.

GeneSplicer 10-18-2015 07:57 PM

Turning the crank is an option should it come to that. So - my hp goals was around 250 on a stock block - but now with all this digging in and shit, should i just go ahead and drop in forged pistons and rods? That ways i can crank up the boost for that one special track car that's pissing me off.

Hell yes. You already have it apart, so throw in some eBay rods at the very least.

Do it. If on a budget I'd run ebay rods and Weisco pistons. If you got coin, Carrillo H beams and FM Weiscos.

18psi 10-18-2015 11:25 PM

look at your other projects.
of course you're gonna go overboard and make it a built monster, so why even waste time thinking about it? ;)

PS: I've always wanted to set up a ridiculous "kill mode" on a car. Like 250whp normal and then like 400+ at the flick of a switch, just to do it in the middle of a race and watch the face of the other guy...easily done with nitrous but I hate nitrous

in for crazy thread :)

curly 10-18-2015 11:39 PM

Grind, you grind a crank.

Throw in some Manely rods, Pistons can add a lot of complication, money, and time. And you don't need them for 250hp

aidandj 10-19-2015 12:47 AM

In for pics.

GeneSplicer 10-19-2015 08:23 AM

Well that didn't take long - drop dropped $800 on a set of Weiscos and Manleys - while there I ordered ARP mains and studs. Here I go over the edge again - ADD/OCD build thread.

For the record - I'm not ignoring the track car. I send out a set of rod and main bearings to WPC and had to bore out the MR2 hubs to fit in the rounded extended ARP lugs. It's about on wheels again so I can deliver for tubular v-mount glory. But that's another OCD story.

GeneSplicer 10-19-2015 08:44 AM

Andrew is giving me 20% off because I'm putting his stickers all over the thing. Yeah I wish, that tightwad :)
BBK Gen 2 ordered with rear brackets for sports. I won't be installing a pro valve and will try using compounds to balance it out. Hell - who am I kidding.

nickt93 10-19-2015 01:31 PM

Lmao - wait, wut?

Where's your thread Nick buddy 'ole pal?

I did ditch the pistons - like Curly says, it's unnecessary expense in pistons and machine work. I'm getting some Manleys and use the stock pistons.
Because of stock pistons, should I retain the squirters? I've seen/read where eliminating them reduces blow-by and smoke??

shuiend 10-19-2015 02:29 PM

Well I am planning on building a Locost7 for myself one day. When I have time between turbo setups and all my other miata's. I figured with how easily you get distracted with new builds I could easily just drop one off at your house, then you say this is cool, then never finish this build. Like all your others.

bawward 10-19-2015 02:58 PM

Subbed. I'm wanting to do an Eliminator style build as well, but I'm interested in seeing how easy it is to adapt just to cage and do the rest myself... keep it up!

Mazduh 10-19-2015 03:00 PM

I don't know whats going on here... But I like it.

BenR 10-19-2015 08:51 PM

Is there a way to contact them outside of facebook or running into them at the track?

I'm definitely interested in this kit.

sixshooter 10-19-2015 09:21 PM

I'll not take much convincing to start into a Locost. Or one of these.

I like light, minimalist stuff. But then I have trouble getting rid of my air conditioning...

Squirrel or something blah blah. What were we talking about?

curly 10-19-2015 09:37 PM

Yes, keep the squirters. Remove them for forged pistons.

Decisions... so I cracked open the 99 block and found everything looked great - until i pooped out the #2 piston (bad pun). Looks like something amiss happened. Some scoring on the piston and cylinder wall.

So -
1: take crank out of 99 and put in 94 block, using 94 pistons with less CR

2: same as above but throw in forged 93mm pistons

3: same but buy a single 99/00 piston and use the 3 good ones for the higher CR

4: fuck it and use the slightly scored piston (and others) in '94 block

5: GeneSplicer goes bankrupts because he blows his load on machine work and forging it all.

I'm trying to at all avoid sending either block off for machining. The 99 certainly will need to be bored .020 if it's gonna be used. The 94 is a more desirable block because of side oil and coolant access.

I'd get it bored and put Weisco's in it. But I already said that.

GeneSplicer 10-20-2015 02:17 PM

I didn't consider it until the 99 block showed issues as well. Now it's in consideration.
I truly am trying to stay cheap (in moderation) because I still have the track to car finish - and it's way more greedy with what funds I have.
It's not like i want this to make 350 - or do I... look!! Rabbit!!

Cheapest I can invision that will work

Weisco pistons/rings
Ebay rods
Cheap set of decent bearings
Mazda gasket set
Gates timing belt kit, Fab9 has a deal on this and a water pump

That should be 1K in parts I think and be bullet proof.

GeneSplicer 10-20-2015 06:29 PM

Well - the 94 block had a ring groove in #3 - so off to the machine shop we go. Ordered some 84mm supertechs 9.5:1 - with safe tune and good fuel, this'll rock.
While i was at it, ordered sway bar kit, comp mounts, cometic gasket, gates belt. ... yada yada yada

The most un-miataturbo thing I will ever say: dude just buy a 1.8 for $700, drop it in, and go have good clean NA fun in an awesome lightweight Eliminator. You can always add boost later. You've got two badazz boosted Miatas already!

GeneSplicer 10-21-2015 01:54 PM

All my track buddies tell me the same thing - I still think they're wrong ;)
$85 for block bore and cleaning - that ain't bad at all - hell, even for the cleaning alone it'd be with it.

I agree. They're wrong.

Turbo is more fun. Thats just a given. Then you need to decide if the work required to be turbo is worth it. :) thats the personal choice.

Not with this one - now if I had another $3k for the TSE kit and DP.
I've got a used FM kit to put on it. The turbo is currently being rebuilt with wheel upgrades. It's a T25. Should be plenty for 250rwhp.

Cheaper Megan Racing wing - not near the adjustments you can get like an APR. I'll have to make something to give me more than 2 AOA choices.

It takes some of the "purity" away from the car to add a windshield but I'd be inclined to have one to keep bugs, rocks, sand, and oils from other cars from hitting my helmet visor. And then there's the wind buffeting.

Supe 11-20-2015 12:02 PM

That eliminator above was one of the faster cars at TGPR at the last TT event, and that was without being able to get the tires warm. It's got tags, too!

He did pretty well at the Roebling double points finale, too. The thing is a disaster with no heat in the tires and brakes, but is a screamer after that. If I recall, the only problem he had was a fuel slosh issue that was leaking from the cap or filler neck. It was fun following him for a while just to watch. His two old turbo Miatas now belong to one of my SU class nemeses to boot. I believe he's talking about going turbo on the Eliminator next.
