Agreed that this would be a good thing to work on... But the priority is pretty low at the moment and my sheet metal fab skills are sub-par. So for now, this is going on the backburner.

I know most people don't, but when I look at the flange, I'm not too confident that the surface is flat enough to run without a gasket.

I'm not sure if I should remove the studs and have it surfaced.
I am not using a gasket for the manifold to turbine flange. I did check when I initially got the car running, with the exhaust system cold I cannot feel any air leaking from this connection with my hands when the motor is revved.

On Saturday I had the first autox of the season. The new turbo was phenomenal! It had full boost (7psi) any time I pushed the pedal down. It was like it was a N/A 200hp car!

Then on run number 3, the stock 120k mile motor finally decided it was done. #4 connecting rod gave out and vented the block.

Um, you were only trying to hit 7psi and you asploded it? I couldnt get mine to stay under 12psi with the 7psi actuator, which might have been your problem.

So, it lasted 2 autox runs?
Sorry to say, but... called it!

edit: I think I gave you my extra block ages ago, right?

I had the boost cut set to 160 kpa and it didn't kick in. so yes it was holding my 7psi target quite well. If you look at the actuator rod you can see that there is no room at all to back the actuator preload down any further.

Yep, i still do have the old block that you gave me. If i remember right, you said it had been overheated...? I will take it to a machinist to be checked out.

First step is to find out the full extent of the carnage. I will be digging into the block this week to see if i need to do anything extensive to the head. I hope i can get away with just a short block build. I really cant afford all the head work beyond new valve seals and gaskets.

I wonder if a rod let loose? I say for your new build you need at least some rods.

I'm going to blame your tune.

The hole looks even bigger with the pretty hotside removed.

I am going to go ahead and assume the head is fucked by that valve position.

Any datalogs of this thing when it was running? I'd like to look at your tune as well, and spool data, etc.

Maybe this is why the Trackspeed Turbo kit is taking so long to come to market?

Maybe running an EFR on a stock block just isn't safe...regardless of what Savington claims...?

Its if its safe, its still silly. At least with the built engine I can just rev it out to make power with the turbo and not make enough torque to nuke the 5 speed.

Nonsense, he probably just had the misfortune of engine knock at the wrong time.

After a long year or the car sitting around, I finally have the ability to breathe a little life back into it.

This little beauty showed up in my driveway yesterday from Trackspeed Engineering.
