Your design helped make this, so I thought I'd return the favor.

After seeing your exhaust manifold work I am really looking forward to seeing this intake manifold build. Do you have a time line for it?

Nagase 03-24-2011 11:03 PM

Lol, I meant the exhaust manifold...

I think both of the last two pictures are for my car. :D

ARTech 03-24-2011 11:29 PM

Yes, Erin. Check your e-mail.

Talking to me?

I have a dyno coming to my shop for a day on May 1. So i NEED to have the car done by then!

basically all i need is intake manifold, charge piping and a downpipe to do though. as well as wiring the new sensors into the AEM for the VVT swap.

I am also having the tuner do my S14 with s14SR, power FC and n60 maf... new daily... which im hoping to make ~260-270 out of.

Glad I could help.
Thanks for the link, but im going to try to find a supplier like that in canada to save on shipping. If not, i will use this.

Cool! I hope to be done it in ~3 weeks to give time to do the rest of the build as well as prepping the s14.

astroboy 03-25-2011 10:03 AM

Pics of said s14? Sill this be the new sideways driver? If so what will the original project become?

shlammed 03-29-2011 10:04 AM

I have the week off, so im going to get some stainless for my intercooler mount that will double as a splitter and ducting mount (wait for pure ballerness) as well as some wire so i can do the VVT wiring into the AEM box.

-New flanges will be in for the downpipe and screamer pipe so i can finish those off Thursday.
-Intercooler piping should be in later this week, i will be able to complete the hot pipe for now.
-Ross parts and head flange have cleared customs and i hope are in for this week so i can get a solid start on that.

Super Excite!!!

astroboy 03-31-2011 05:43 PM

Is it for a quad butt plug? Should be epic!

Nagase 03-31-2011 05:46 PM

Of course not! He's going iRRRRRRteebeez. Duh. :P

shlammed 03-31-2011 05:56 PM

single tee bee.
short runner intake manifold, designed for miata + boosts

Nagase 03-31-2011 05:57 PM

I know. I have one. It was a joke, like the quad butt plug. :P <- Joking face.

dgmorr 03-31-2011 06:39 PM

Do you plan to test the stock IM and then this one separately?

shlammed 03-31-2011 06:40 PM

Prob not.

Would require two tunes and two cold pipes.

Not willing to pay for that right now.

astroboy 03-31-2011 11:28 PM

I think if you did and showed there are significant gains with your manifold you would be able to sell maaaany more units than without.

Have you settled on a runner length yet?

Gotpsi? 04-01-2011 02:18 PM

You dont need both dynos, an intake will prove its self with its torque and HP curves not dropping off like the stocker as long as its done correctly. He will have a much healthier setup, its really just math. Every intake I have built has been one off, not one of them the same so I never bothered to dyno them and everyone is very happy with their gains, with no report of any loss in low end torque thus far. Good luck man keep the pics coming.

You're not going to have issues with the fuel lines and other hardware on that side? Looks awful close to me...

Braineack 04-06-2011 05:44 PM

http://www.boostedmiata.com/gallery2...2/DSC_0008.JPG

it fits.

but this is why I designed mine with 45° bends.

shlammed 04-06-2011 05:49 PM

wont clear my brake propo valve... will have to redo that line.

Fuel lines are a joke. just bend them with a proper tool.

As far as the 45's.... mine is setup with a ~15-20 degree cut (didnt measure angle) at the head flange... and as you can see in the picture there is very minimal porting of the head flange needed.

This allows my runners to not be right in the frame rail like they would if they came straight off the head.

Braineack 04-06-2011 06:16 PM

I didnt notice the RHD...

that's 7" from tip to tip, including flange and trumpets?

IIRC the pictured is 9"

shlammed 04-06-2011 06:25 PM

that 7" doesnt include the head flange and half of the trumpet within the calcs and it is very very close to that irl. I am ~0.02 off of my design calculations.

This car should have AMAZING power from 3000/3500-redline (7500rpm) depending how fast the turbo comes on. below that i will still always be making more than peak HP of a stock miata.

Gotpsi? 04-09-2011 01:48 AM

Your taking your measurements from the valve right? not just the length of the runner tube. If not your calculations are wrong, just fyi. You should me measuring velocity stack or trumpet + runner + flange + head runner length center line to valve.

Your welds? Nice very nice

jtothawhat 04-18-2011 10:34 PM

Looking good, any reason you are routing your intercooler piping like that? Do you have P/S or A/C still?

shlammed 04-19-2011 08:36 AM

thanks!

Yes, my welds. Yes power steering. limits the space to be had between the frame rail. so being that my last year setup was similar, the spot was already cut for this.

There should be no huge restriction within the charge piping now and i should be able to get north of 350 on pump when i install the pistons and rods.

Im also excited for this new gas lense kit.... allows me to get no brown haze off the stainless weld and keep the filler in the sheilding (and still see it)!

Attachment 189610

astroboy 04-19-2011 04:20 PM

More good looking welds, and an interesting routing of the charge pipe. For some reason I keep thinking bad things will happen to it but it is highly unlikely.

How are you handling the ewg exhaust, screamer pipe?

shlammed 04-19-2011 04:27 PM

bad things will happen how so?

i ran it like that all of last year! I will be building a mount for it to keep it from vibrating though.

EWG is going to be plumbed down to a slash cut at the bottom of the subframe.

astroboy 04-19-2011 06:28 PM

I am not saying that anything will happen but the way it is routed makes my brain think of catastrophe.

shlammed 04-19-2011 07:18 PM

Under normal operating or in an accident?

The metal that I cut out was as thick as the front fender. Hand bendable.

dgmorr 04-19-2011 08:28 PM

I missed these updates. Nice! Now do my piping! PM'd.

I ran my charge pipe like that once, and the only bad thing that happened would have been when a coupler blew off IN the fender so it was a major PITA to fix on the side of the road. Nothing serious.

No problem doing your piping.
I just need to prioritize this project to meet the dyno date first.

Timing is around a month right now.

shlammed 04-27-2011 11:00 AM

half finished the cold pipe.... decided i NEED to get the intake manifold done though... im not making my deadline of the 1st anyways.

off to make the throttle plate, hack the runners down a hair and start the plenum tonight.

This is the working version of a part i hope to produce. I am having CAD drawings of all of the parts made so I can make another 10 of them post dyno results.

Edit: 949 posts ;)

thats a pic with a kitty no less. no ban.

although it appears you need central heat.

dgmorr 04-27-2011 01:34 PM

Canadians don't need heat.

I also wasted my long weekend building the laundry room instead of tracking. So sad, but the weather sucks.

shlammed 04-27-2011 02:30 PM

Word. I need to get cracking on my car... I know it... im just frustrated with it and lazy right now.

Plans would be nice to setup 10 production Vband turbo manifolds as well. Building them with 1.25" piping and 1.5" wastegate elbow.
Design will match my current manifold.

shlammed 05-04-2011 01:09 PM

Starting my next turbo manifold in my down time while waiting for parts for my car.

right now its looking like it will be a 1.8 manifold in 1.25" shed 10 pipe with tial Vband inlet flange and ms-v. top mount ramhorn style. if anyone wants it, let me know. finish will be natural fine with the casting sanded off.

Wiring done, just need to connect at the aem ems.
Also need to loom it.

astroboy 05-09-2011 09:27 PM

Don't forget to duct the front end and do the tie rod boots ;)

Looks good, what is the solenoid thing on the passenger side fire wall?

shlammed 05-09-2011 09:29 PM

Ems based boost control.

I remember way back you were looking for some firewall plugs. I found a set that works! I ordered them from this guy on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...IF%3AUS%3A1123

They took close to a month to arrive, but they fit perfect.

shlammed 05-16-2011 11:18 AM

So good. thanks dude i will measure what i need and order some up!

will work great as grommets for my wire tuck.

Yah man- enjoy. Earl's actually sells premade grommets to run wire loom, I was browsing the site in my searches and stumbled accross them.

shlammed 05-18-2011 11:13 AM

Car is fun to drive, but im bored of working on it (recently).

One of three thing may happen:

1. Part out and have money in the bank/ sell civic and get a nice daily.
2. Finish it on whatever time i feel like working on it.
3. Wait for a year and see how i feel then.

the whole driving an hour each way to work on it is annoying and probably the limiting factor on this mindset.

curly 05-18-2011 11:45 AM

God dammit, I'm sick of people parting out build threads. I realize you may have your reasons, but for fucks sake, look ahead. What do you think is going to happen to your patience if you have build plans that might take up to a year, and a 2 hour commute to work on your car. You have three options:

1. move it closer
2. finish it enough to drive, and tinker at home when you have time.
3. buy me a plane ticket, buy me a baseball bat, and I'll come beat you over the head until you choose option 1 or 2.

shlammed 05-18-2011 12:02 PM

it could be me right now...

been raining for over a week, im sick, been working on my civic for it to fail emissions hard last night, the miata needs an emission test and some places are dropping insurance on right hand drive cars recently....

but hey... no decisions yet... im just bummed to the max.
