Don't part it out! Just go work on it when you can put in an entire day of work or move it closer. If you don't I may take care of curly's option #3

viperormiata 05-18-2011 02:31 PM

Finish the car. Trust me (and every one else) it is more than worth it.

It took me over a year to turbo my car, seriously. I had to do it at night when I wasn't at school or work. Pay for parts with whatever money I had left after tuition and books. It took a long time, but I never regret it....ever!

dgmorr 05-18-2011 02:58 PM

The rain sucks, I must have only driven my car like 3 times this month. Keep on pushing....otherwise sell me that engine :inout:

This is what has been driving me crazy in the last few weeks as well.

The car has absorbed ~25k$ over the last.... 2 years. Minor minor things, but frequent and like clockwork.

I probably wont part it, but i dont want it to always be taking my money. I want to live besides a 19 year old car.

shlammed 05-18-2011 03:46 PM

Ok... so i did a spreadsheet of what needs to be done and what needs to be bought to finish this car as well as what i WANTED to do to get it where i want...

General Question: what year/make/model GM car has the brass open element IAT sensor so i can go buy one at a parts store and not have to buy one from a US website?

Also, can someone tell me if i make a lower coolant neck off the water pump... is there any reason to NOT use steel? I understand dissimilar metals etc but i dont know if this is a problem with electrical conductivity or something.... or even stainless... I dont wanna pay for that shitty looking begi one.

astroboy 05-18-2011 05:23 PM

I wouldn't worry about the dissimilar metals but why do you need a lower coolant neck off the water pump?

scottyd 05-18-2011 08:53 PM

Buy the ford plastic bodied one. No heatsoak issues.

shlammed 05-19-2011 09:09 AM

Is it thread in?

I don't have aem tune On my computer I am at. I'm not sure if there is calibration for that sensor.

mighty mouse 05-19-2011 10:51 AM

Don't part it out! Hell I've spent almost 4 years on mine. It would have been done way sooner, but like you, life got in the way.

Braineack 05-19-2011 10:55 AM

part outs are awful. If you think you a tired of working on a car to complete it, wait till you work on a car to make it back to stock as well as finding time to source parts and try to sell the others.

shlammed 05-26-2011 10:04 AM

Not parting it.

I will be working on it this weekend. I hope to get my wiring done.

Im going with the KISS approach for the remainder of the build for this year.
-NOT going sequential fuel.... just leave it.
-NOT going COPS... will just make a coil mount
etc...

i just need to get my stuff together and do it.... also need the intake temp sensor but i have no application for the person to look up.

astroboy 05-26-2011 09:17 PM

Good call man, get it running and then tinker with it after you get the initial bugs worked out.

That's what I did! I got tired of working on the car, and just did the bare essentials to get it running so I could enjoy it a little bit last year. Now I'm going back and finalizing everything. Might seem a little backwards to some, but it was worth it to be able to drive the car

shlammed 05-27-2011 10:40 AM

Its mostly to keep my motivation up.

Also there is the "Maple Leaf Bash" (drifting) event on July 30/31 that i will kick myself if i cant drive in.

Adding door bars and running tandems.

Just had my brother get one last weekend.... 95 corvette works.

shlammed 05-29-2011 03:50 PM

So I worked on it a little yesterday.

Doing wiring for the most part as well as modifying the engine for a return style fuel system.
The wg dump was built too but needs a brace to the engine to keep it from moving all over.

Finished the cold pipe for the stock intake manifold. I will make the other one later.

This is the stock block off from the 2002 fuel rail modded to relocate the 92 Fpr. The 92 unit wouldn't fit regardless of orientation. Add a few inches of hose and bam. Cheap temporary solution.

Working on wiring while my GF is studying to write her RN exam on Wednesday.

All of the engine wiring is set into place and routed The new sensors wire is setup in the bay and needs to be strung into the ecu.

Injector clips were bought from Ballenger motorsports with an iat sensor since my ID injectors from 949 didn't ever come with proper clips.

shlammed 05-30-2011 09:29 PM

Also, can anyone confirm colors of wires for me? 92 harness color for starter and oil pressure sensor.

I have the harness deloomed and I may have reversed them I feel.

theshdwconspracy 05-31-2011 02:32 PM

hey if you don't finish this car I'm going to fly up to canada and kick you in the dick personally.

shlammed 05-31-2011 02:37 PM

Working on it again. The flu had me down.

astroboy 06-04-2011 06:36 PM

The oil pressure is yellow with a red stripe and I am pretty sure the starter is a thick black with red stripe wire. Also the black one with the brass (or something like that) tab on the end.

shlammed 06-04-2011 07:20 PM

Thanks dude. I will check that next time I'm out.

Still getting over my flu/cold/sickness.

shlammed 06-15-2011 03:49 PM

Thinking about getting an S2000.... hmmm

dgmorr 06-15-2011 10:20 PM

if you want something slow...:hustler:

theshdwconspracy 06-16-2011 01:53 AM

bad idea, cancer is to living like S2000's are to drifting

shlammed 06-17-2011 11:36 AM

Booted up the tooning laptop last night. 1998 spec compaq with 266 mhz and 32mb ram.....

no more serial adapter bullshit.

Ordering 100% of the stuff to finish my car sunday. mainly coolant lines for turbz and fuel crap

scottyd 06-17-2011 12:50 PM

Damn. Windows 95 or 98 on that bitch?

shlammed 06-17-2011 01:24 PM

98

astroboy 06-17-2011 01:59 PM

Nice man, S2000's are great cars but I would hate to see you get rid of this thing.

Going to wire the car up this weekend, hopefully enough that i can power up the system and boot up the computer to verify signals from new sensors etc.

Also, going to be cutting collectors for new manifolds with my new collector fixture!
Attachment 187979
I have a T3 top mount 1.6 manifold to build.

shlammed 06-25-2011 07:09 PM

Engine bay wiring is DONE!
Tomorrow i need to pull the new wires to the EMS and pin them.

After that, its just hooking up the driveshaft, oils and taking apart the hotside to properly install it all tightened down. I want to do my existing mild steel exhaust in stainless though, so i will be doing that too.

Stoked!

dgmorr 06-25-2011 08:02 PM

So close, keep it up.

astroboy 06-25-2011 10:30 PM

Sweet, seems like people are finishing their builds around the same time.

What is the thing on your trunk representing? A badass hole punch, or a cnc, or the begining of a robots vagina???

Also the civic looks good but all ya need is a d my friend!

shlammed 06-26-2011 09:07 AM

Astro, I wish i had camera skills of you guys so i could take a super wicked slow shutter pics of my fixture in action today. it holds the 1.25" shedule 10 pipe in my bandsaw at 15 degrees to cut perfect collectors (fixture... not jig... this is 100% repeatable!)

Going out there in 20 to finish the interior wiring, drop the driveshaft and shifter in and a bunch of little misc stuff.

I need to do one more summit order with some fireshield and a few little other things.

I will also be hitting the metal shop this week for some pipe to build manifolds, metal for seat brackets (bride rep for passenger) and aluminum for coolant overflow tanks- NA miata specific (another part i want to produce)

dgmorr 06-26-2011 07:17 PM

Do you already have plans for a seat bracket?

This guy sent me his CAD file that I'm going to try and get a local shop to cut and bend.

shlammed 06-26-2011 07:24 PM

Nope, making it myself. Not too hard to do.

Got around to actually using my collector cutter...

takes quite a bit of time on a dry bandsaw so i dont cook blades though...

Here is what happened..... had this running in the background while i tore into the Honda B20 and miata wiring...

So who wants a manifold? ;)

astroboy 07-15-2011 11:23 PM

Looks great man. That thing looks like it performs quite well. May be hitting you up for some manifolds this winter :D

shlammed 07-16-2011 02:38 AM

Yeah, it works great! Let me know what you need and i can build it as this one... i am just building one for the sake of building it at the moment... i didnt want to commit to any outside projects with my car not done and with me building a B20 Vtec for my daily civic.

I will have one made up with a more steep ramp too for shorter collectors on tighter manifold designs.

For the most part my manifolds will be 1.25" runners as they are good for up to 500whp.

shlammed 07-19-2011 01:40 PM

Going to my shop tonight (5:30-10) to hopefully finish finish the wiring and get the entire exhaust built and finished.

Saturday night (7pm-3am) i hope to get the car to a place where it will start.

trying to remind myself of things that need to be changed on the AEM ems to get running...

1. control engine fans
2. add crank sensor
3. change settings for cam sensor
4. VVT something...
5. IAT cal/wiring
6. calibrate TPS
7. Idle air control settings - can someone verify 02 IAC setting is the same 94-05?

For the time i am running stock coil packs and batch fire fuel like i was last year to keep things basic. should retain the same injector and ignition phasing if i am correct...

I will switch to LS1 coils or the toyota COPS later on.... i have toyota cops but i dont know that i like them.

I hope to goodness i can have it started saturday night... that would REALLY motivate me to keep going with it :)

shlammed 07-19-2011 09:12 PM

Can someone with a 1.6 miata check the colors of the wires for iac ASAP?
Trying to wire right now!

Where i am at.

Can someone with a 1.6 miata check the colors of the wires for iac solinoid?

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1311128499

astroboy 07-20-2011 06:54 AM

Still need those wire colors? What in particular do you need if so?

shlammed 07-20-2011 08:38 AM

I do need them.

I just need to know what the colors are coming out of the idle air control soiloid. I have the FSM wiring diagram printed off but the ECU with motor sensors doesnt have it on it.

Looking at how i did the wiring this year im not 100% pleased with the outcome. Mainly being that if it didnt plug in i just ran new wires to the ECU ( about half dozen).

If the car runs fine and continues to do so until the winter, that will be one of the only changes over this winter season besides a full brake line tuck and forged pistons/rods

Braineack 07-20-2011 08:48 AM

if you have the FSM, then you have the wire colors...

It's Blue/Orange on the ECU side at pin 2W. and 12v is White/Red - shared with the CAS & injectors

shlammed 07-20-2011 08:59 AM

Thanks.

I don't have a cas anymore though. ;)

Spent some time working on this again today.

Managed to hack the mild steel exhaust that i built up last year to rape it of my stainless cat and muffler. It was pretty rusty after just a year. Rebuilding it with 304 stainless steel with a 3A finish (sanitary-polished in and out)

Continued work in the engine bay and am 90% done the stuff in there for this season...
Just need to bolt a few things up...

Here is a recent pic of a vband flange weld since I have dialed in my fab setup!

THAT!

is a good looking weld.

dgmorr 07-24-2011 10:01 AM

That's looking professional. I'm gonna have to bring my B5 to you for some exhaust work too!

shlammed 07-24-2011 10:47 AM

Thanks!

I have the settings dialed in now! Just need to keep at it to keep getting better and better

mighty mouse 07-26-2011 02:13 PM

wow nice weld!

shlammed 07-26-2011 02:22 PM

Thanks!

I feel comfortable enough now to make a few jigs for 4 different types of manifolds for the community.

-Bottom mount, ac+ps
-bottom mount with no restrictions
-top mount-with AC+ps
-top mount- no restrictions

Currently i am waiting for the flanges to build a bottom mount with AC/PS. The prototype will be done shortly ;)
Using stainless flanges because we all want something to keep looking as good as our cars do. They will be thick so they dont warp.

shlammed 07-27-2011 10:06 PM

Put in the battery today ;)

seems everything is right from the parameter window. Stoked!

Question: i didnt have my fuel lines hooked up and i had my fuel pump switch off... but if i hit start on the key it would still pump regardless of the switch off... is this normal? Notables: AFM delete with the pins in the diagnostic box jumpered with a switch in it.

wittyworks 07-27-2011 11:08 PM

If you need stainless exhaust head flanges i have 1/2 inch 304 flanges for sale. pm me or check out my website if interested. Also, what kind of back purge setup are you running?

I hope to finish refinishing some bedroom furniture so i can get to the shop and finish wiring... change some sensor parameters and see if the car will sync on the AEm...

if it does... i have about 2h of other work to do before i attempt to start it! :O
