That doesn't make me happy. :( Its competitors are ugly and disgusting looking, or have buttons in the wrong place for easy Miata usage.

I've had good luck with Alpine in the past, but the iLX-207 has bottom row buttons. I've liked my Kenwoods, but the single DIN i have in the Montero right now is being flaky and has kindof been flaky since day one. Bit gun-shy of spending a bunch of money on one, even though they seem to have some left-side button'd ones. What do you like?

Considering these:

Kenwood DDX-6704S: https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...-DDX6704S.html

JVC KW-V840BT (Though if i don't need CD/DVD, i'm not sure if it's worth paying extra over the KW-M730BT): https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...KW-V840BT.html

The Pioneer/Alpines all appear to be bottom button'd.

I like what you have done here, all very tasteful mods and looks very understated.

Wonder how well those Maruha extended front top hats would work on my Ohlins?

BTW, get those fogs installed and let me know how they work out.

Thanks man.

If the shaft diameter is same as OEM, probably pretty well.

I'm working on the lighting situation lol. There's just some way more important things in front dammit! :P

I also don't like that Alpine.

The JVC doesn't have much for physical buttons which gets annoying.

In that price range with a side button requirement the 6704 is a good choice. The sonic electonics listing is wrong though. That receiver does not have garmin nav built in. You can obviously use android auto/apple carplay for nav though. I believe that model is being replaced by the 6705 which explains the heavy discount.

I need to sit in the car again and see if the bottom buttons are really a non-starter. Issue is that i have the tall-angled shifter, and i usually put single DIN stereos in the top slot as it is. The Kenwood looks good for the monies, though. I imagine it's a better stereo, taking price out of the equation than the AX100, so at same price, probably a no-brainer.

Moar updates:

In an effort to fix the weird idle, i replaced the o-rings/seals/bushings on the injectors, as they looked suspect when i was investigating.

2018-05-24_02-14-26 by concealer404, on Flickr

So i got this.

2018-05-24_02-14-43 by concealer404, on Flickr

Removed these, then noticed that there were additional seals left in ports. Derp.

2018-05-24_02-15-01 by concealer404, on Flickr

Which would have looked like this. Probably an issue.

2018-05-24_02-15-10 by concealer404, on Flickr

Still idled weird, so... yay. (Ended up swapping a plenum/tb/iacv combo that Boileralum was nice enough to bring by for me, and it works now. Looks like the original IACV is bad. Possibly due to Megasquirt things not being set up right.)

Got some pizza from Italy.

Ooooooooo

2018-05-24_02-12-07 by concealer404, on Flickr

Blooooooooo

2018-05-24_02-12-17 by concealer404, on Flickr

Swapped from one on left, to one on right. Then days after i threw out the one on the left, i realized that the one on the right doesn't fit right, because reasons? So it rattles. Yay.

2018-05-24_02-12-54 by concealer404, on Flickr

Used this to remove hardtop latch screws.

2018-05-24_02-13-09 by concealer404, on Flickr

Still had a bad time.

2018-05-24_02-13-25 by concealer404, on Flickr

2018-05-24_02-14-06 by concealer404, on Flickr

Got some floormats. They are nice, but i would gladly pay $40 more for ones that DON'T say Roadthter.

2018-05-24_04-33-44 by concealer404, on Flickr

Bought Jass hardtop brackets because the Garagestar ones i put on were awful. Designed entirely to make them easy to install, which means they don't seal. (Also bought a bunch of SS security torx bolts on amazon because Jass charges THIRTY ONE DOLLARS for 10 security torx bolts.)

Found my trans leak.

2018-05-29_03-27-07 by concealer404, on Flickr

De-pinned connectors from OEM to the new thing, because the new thing had a two prong-in-one black plug.

2018-05-29_03-26-40 by concealer404, on Flickr

Made a tool. Then realized that the reason i had to re-pin the new thing was because it was a reverse switch, and it was my neutral switch that had broken. Yay! (Boileralum to the rescue again)

2018-05-29_03-26-53 by concealer404, on Flickr

Got it aligned. Car drives/handles/rides AWESOME. Much power. Many handles. Such ride quality. Very sport.

2018-05-29_03-27-20 by concealer404, on Flickr

And then sadface. Diff is trashed and source of much noise. Monk to the rescue. Diff is goodly now.

2018-05-29_03-27-35 by concealer404, on Flickr

ONGOING SADNESS:
1) The lack of 8" 2-way passive component systems available
2) V8R motor mounts. Still dont' seem to be right. Motor wants to sit crooked. Suspect durometer is not what i ordered. NVH is absolutely ridiculous, causing a really bad resonance from front of car.
3) Everything RB exhaust. Power Pulse exhaust is extremely loud in car. Causing resonance from back of car right at cruising RPM. Weird, because it's REALLY quiet outside. And sounds great.
4) Rattling side mirrors caused by the bosses in the covers inside being broken off. Can't wait to try to source some Twilight Blue mirrors. SIGH.
5) Jim Drago won't answer his phone or emails, he has a hood that i want.
6) One of the AC lines is split. Once i replace, AC SHOULD work, which would be nice.

WINS:
1) Car is fast. TONS of grip. TONS of midrange punch. The extra work to mess with the fuel system is paying dividends.
2) Car is pretty. I love this color, i nailed the ride height and the wheel/tire choice is on point. Looks super meaty without needing huge body mods.

Still to do:
1) HID/projector retrofit
2) Install LED fogs
3) Figure out door panels
4) Buy stereo things
5) Add sound deadening and insulation
6) Figure out V8R mount BS
7) Possibly swap out muffler for a Roadstersport4
8) Replace split AC line and charge

I don't even understand how it happened, to be honest. I didn't drop the trans on this thing. The main cap snapped off by hand with my fingers. Then the threads came out with my fingers. It's not like it was tight, so how did it snap?

We broke them just tightening them to the recommended torque, so I'm not sure myself.

Car is progressingly greatly with excellent awesomesauce!

I think I might be biding my time to replace my lowish compression engine with JDM goodness, but I'll be keeping my MS, because I suffer from "I tuned it myself!" syndrome.

On the subject of the RB exhaust, I have to agree. I have the dual output, and it sounds awesome and kinda quiet outside the car, but is somehow stupid loud inside the car. When I think it is raging with much loudness pain on the front straight, the guy on the wall asks when I'm shifting, because he can't really hear the car. Wut?

Yeah i wish it sounded the way it does outside, because that is pretty much perfect.... but i'd like it to be at least 20db quieter inside the car. It's not THAT MUCH quieter inside than Hater. And Hater is possibly the loudest Miata i've heard.

Not sure what you're getting at. I've run Mazdacomp mounts on a car before. Hated them. Pure wobbly trash. Don't think i'm trying to get mad over part choices not doing what they're supposed to, i've experienced these mounts on another car for hundreds of miles in one shot, which is exactly why i purchased them. Something is wrong with these. I'll figure it out.

If what you're getting at is that you don't agree with my definition of "street car," then that's valid, but purely opinion. This car is what i want, just with the mounts Vteckiller2000 has.

Which is "funny" because you ordered the exact ones I have, yet they feel and fit nothing like mine...

curlycakes, this is Neb you're talking to: his idea of street car is literally the stiffest, loudest, most uncomfortable contraption on the planet. If you don't go deaf blind and numb as well as dehydrated from sweat driving this street car, you're doin it wrong. I'm actually quite shocked he didn't just weld the engine and diff to the subframe, and hardmount his knuckles to the frame rails.

Weird, it's almost like i got a defective/incorrect part that i've made pretty clear that i'm trying to correct, instead of making an incorrect choice.

Also, this car has AC, you hater baebaecakes, you.
