I seem to be completely fine. My passenger was a little sore but was able to drive his car home. The organizers comped his fee, and I then comped the organizers because that seemed only appropriate.
|
Tomorrow might hurt. Mine took 2 days before I got sore. Glad everyone is OK. At least you have a year in NZ to forget about it.
|
Glad to hear you're okay. At least your car died an honorable death. Hope you get another miata and get back out there!
|
Shit Mobius, I'm sorry man. Too many members cars here seem to be biting it lately. I guess that is part of racing, still sad to see though.
To turn it into a bright side POV, at least you won't need to deal with long term storage solutions for the car now? Remember, 15 minutes heat & cold alternating and Ibuprofen is your friend. |
Car knew you were leaving, took it's life in spite.
Glad to hear you're okay; sounds like a heluva impact. |
I was there to unload the car and drive Richard home, hit hard is an understatement. I will say this car did one hell of a job taking the impact and Richard's safety gear did a good job. We will salvage her and see what's actually going on, I'm just glad he is walking and talking and cracking jokes.
|
Dammit that sucks, all the best to you. Good that the car took care of your health...
|
Sorry to hear that the car is ruined, but glad everyone is ok.
|
Concrete barriers and race tracks . . . yuck.
I'm glad you and your passenger are OK. |
Damn....so sorry to hear. I've been reading your build and to get destroyed like that is sad. Well it's just a car and it's replaceable. Glad you and your passenger are okay

I'm glad you and your passenger are OK. I would say tire barrier on the inside might be helpful. |
Curly, isnt there a video of your close call? If its the same turn I'm thinking of.

Yup. Here's the Mini that did what Richard did, and what I almost did:
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1429543764 Here's my save. More grip, more speed, and drop a bit of a wheel, and yeah, you can't save it. Yes, this is before my GoPro. video is still being processed |
Really good write-up of a really bad event.
|
That last concrete apron to the right after Curly's save is where my car snapped when the rear tires went onto the concrete. There was no chance of saving it. There was nothing gradual about it. I will post video but I have to do some processing to it first.
|
Oh noes! :noes:
I'm so glad that you and the passenger made it out relatively unschathed because that could have gone much, much worse. Good job Mazda with the doors still opening. Take it easy for the next couple days and pay attention to your body. I know it sucks and its going to sting for a while, but you are doing it right in that you can walk away "free and clear" from the car. Man, this does suck but I'm glad you are OK. |
Sorry to hear about the crash, that's a serious bummer. That wall and the corner approaching it looks very similar to the final corner and front straight at Waterford Hills, and that wall has a ton of smear-marks too. It's simply a dangerous corner exit.
Glad to hear you're OK. Keep us updated on how you decide to move forward. |
Edit. I'm not sure I can blame the concrete, the wheel may have stepped off.
|
Hmm, my dentist is on the track management. Old friend of my dads too. I can't see them saying no to adding a safety feature.
|
Also seems like no reason not to have one, doesn't look to be part of the line.
(I've never driven there) |
